Pathfinder Exists Because of Players' Lack of Moderation

I don’t need Blizzard to moderate anything for me, thanks.

They are building the tools to ‘moderate’ play time for WoW players in China. Just a matter of porting it to the NA market when they can make some money from it.

Wouldn’t be surprised. Log in to WoW with your Facebook account - oops, your social score isn’t high enough to play today! Better work on your public comments and maybe tomorrow we’ll let you on.

And they would quickly find 50%+ of the playerbase leaving the game if they did remove flying

That’s a fast way to lose players.

I mean, if I heard of a game in the US that tried that kind of, ahem, cow manure, I’d blacklist them forever and would never buy any of their games.

Agreed. And yet, Blizzard seems to be filled with control freaks so it wouldn’t be too surprising if they did start restricting WoW access due to comments elsewhere. Some people dislike other customers so much that they’ll support it because they view it as an attack on people they hate.

For example - they asked people to connect their Twitch and Battle net accounts for Overwatch, which could result in possible restrictions in-game due to comments elsewhere. People complained about it and the sweaty weirdos came out to attack on Blizzard’s behalf.

It’s all about boiling that frog. Push the limit a little more each day and eventually you’ll be cooked without realizing it.

I’ve never heard the term about boiling the frog. It’s a morbid way of thinking, but yeah, it does kind of seem to apply.

It’s also why lootboxes and MTX are in the state they’re in.

They slowly moved the “frog” closer and closer and now we have governments investigating whether their business practices are ethical or not.

A frog will jump out of water if it gets too hot, but if the temperature raises slowly enough the frog will legit sit there until it gets cooked.

So the term as it’s used colloquially means “push the limit a little at a time until people are screwed without realizing it.”

MTX is a great example. At first it was just Horse Armor, then they added more little by little, now we have Activision-Blizzard releasing games with thousands of dollars’ worth of MTX.

It makes sense, just never heard the specific term. The concept I’m familiar with of course. Just never heard the actual term.

It’s not just blizzard, its the entire industry. It’s pretty much the majority of mobile gaming.

And it can’t last. You can’t increase profits forever. But that’s a discussion for another day.

It doesn’t necessarily need to be. I disagreed with you just by reading the thread title. Flying existed for 8 years of people lacking moderation. You can’t always appeal to people who play this game 23 hours per day (and yes, that includes those who play that long but tell people they only play an hour or two).

With modern inflation i imagine you would be looking at over 100k

Getting 5k gold in BC wasn’t near as bad as you people make it out to be. I had fast flying on 3 characters before wrath dropped.

Yes but how many could afford todays inflated price for flying if there was one

It wouldn’t be near 100k like you claim.

and you know this how? 10 years on, inflation being what it is it could be more. when people are paying 100g for 1 herb, yeah it might be 100k or more

Ok why does flying need to be locked behind an exorbitant cost? The cost was high for ONE expansion then pretty much given almost freely every expansion since.

What is this obsession that flying needs to be so locked down and exclusive? It’s one of the best features in the game and we should be able to use it right at max level after pathfinder part 1 is done.

i could be wrong but its never been free… it was a gold cost then pathfinder. if you want to go back to cost, then you should be happy to pay the updated cost

Yes it’s always been a cost but the cost has been pennies on the dollar since wrath. Cold weather flying wasn’t even 1000 gold, cata it was like 250 MoP upped it to 2500 so what happened to inflation over those years?

as someone that plays the AH let me tell you inflation has really spiked in the last 4 years. People now have 10’s of millions of gold. which i imagine did not happen in wrath etc. people have more gold so can afford more

I believe all time gating is implemented to slow content consumption and extend subscriptions. Pathfinder is just one of many aspects of the game to do this.

The problem is time gating tends to reduce the fun in the game and personally the only reason I play video games is to have fun.
