That’s not what gaslighting is. It’s impossible to do that over a forum conversation, because it literally takes repeated and intense interaction with the person. You two are disagreeing, not gaslighting each other.
I’ll say it as many times as it comes up: putting pathfinder in 11.x is pathetic. Very much an insult to fans and showing how desperate they are for player retention. Sad!
Pathfinder IS a participation trophy. You get it because you participated in all the main quests and the senseless rep grind
It is teaching us one thing. Dont buy the expansion until after it all comes out, blizzard will monkey paw things like this just because they can. I have talked to several friends that wont be buying any expansions until the decide if they are any good. They can just playing old expansions if they feel like it.

They can’t… ya know FOMO is a big thing for all these folks too.

Pathfinder never addresses why players aren’t doing the content in the first place.
It kinda does mate. People praise classic and now hardcore because the world feels dangerous and alive. People group. People pvp.
Retail is the opposite. Too many people hover until a rare is 10%, tag, loot and scoot. Then rush to the forums to complain about the game having no soul.
Not fixed, mangled, but I’ll give you a -1 for attempt.

Dragon Riding is not only a feature, it is the main feature of this expansion.
Now I’m confused. There are no shortage of people in this thread telling people who don’t dragon ride they can use ground mounts and flight points to unlock pathfinder if they so desire. Wouldn’t that make dragon riding just as optional as pathfinder?

Do you have a citation for this?

Nothing in what you just said addresses the point you quoted. If players are engaging with the game in the way you described, there is some reason why they aren’t choosing to engage in the content tied to pathfinder. It may simply be human nature and pathfinder is unavoidable, but that doesn’t change the fact that pathfinder serves the purpose of trying to make playing the game in that manner worthwhile to those players who otherwise would simply hover over a rare until 10%.
I’ve earned pathfinder multiple times and never had as much of a problem with it as people whining about it.
As to a hypthetical version of 10.0 that doesn’t have dragonflying as a core feature, I have no idea what that would look like and neither does anyone else since this expansion and it’s maps were designed with DR in mind; in the event that that wasn’t the case the zones would be smaller and designed with less impassable verticallity much like how it was in the previous three expansions where Pathfinder was a thing.
Now, can I see how the actual 10.0 game that we have and which incorporates flying would be frustrating for someone who doesn’t utilize Dragonflying? Of course I can, but I can also note that the map is absolutely riddled with flightmasters all over the place allowing players to get to just about every location with not that much effort, about the only spots that wouldn’t be accessible would be Tyrhold, ossuary, Vault of the incarnates and I think that might be it.

That’s nice but most players don’t like being grounded for a year for arbitrary reasons. Or in this case, pigeonholed into a feature they don’t like and/or causes them motion sickness.

Rarely does Pathfinder require group content (I think Legion might have been the last one with a LFR requirement tucked away in a campaign?), and it has never required PVP content.
If that’s what is supposedly getting players fired up on Classic and Hardcore servers, Pathfinder and its laundry list of PVP-free and grouping-free tasks doesn’t serve it at all.
Do you get renown for pvping? didnt think so.
Have you done the Embers of Neltharion questline? I think five of those seven chapters drop a 2500 renown token.
You can get renown rewards from PVP-related world quests. I have no idea what structured PVP rewards in this expansion.

Nothing as far as reputations go
I know casual BGs reward nothing reputation-based at least, don’t think Solo Shuffle drops any reputation stuff either
So for PvP’ers it really is a situation of “being forced to do something you don’t like” to get Pathfinder, since chances are we haven’t been out grinding boring WQs every single day… a lot of the PvP’ers I know mostly hang out in the capital city while waiting for queues, so obviously won’t have lots of renown

Tell me you want a lobby game, without telling me you want a lobby game.

Tell me you want a lobby game, without telling me you want a lobby game.
(Looks at your achieves for doing questing, exploration, and reputation content, all that stuff that Pathfinder’s presence means is important.)
(Looks at my achieves for that type of content.)
You don’t have to tell me you want a lobby game because it’s written all over what you choose to do. Pathfinder is made for players like you, not me.
Without flight - dragonriding or otherwise - what would get you to drag your butt out into open world content more?
I agree.
Forcing people into something like this or arm twisting them into it doesn’t make sense to me. After all it is a game.

what would get you to drag your butt out into open world content more?
Character progression. I know, what a shocker? An mmorpg, with open world character progression. Legion and BFA did it well. SL pretty decent. Mix in some world pvp and I’ll log in.
But we can’t have that. Too many players want to raid log or lobby pvp. Or complain about kt jumping puzzles so that we end up with turtle quests. They want to afk in their garrison or solo some target dummy rares.

Forcing people into something like this
This is crazy to me. By force, you mean content that actually has rewards that people want? Sign me up. Because the reverse is this, content with no rewards that no one does because… it has no rewards…
You have to hold a key down or use your mouse to steer for regular flying with dragon riding it’s the same except you get to push a button to go faster it’s not that hard. You don’t even have to go that much faster just enough to keep moving.
