I switched from Venthry to Kyrian with the new patch but didn’t try the Path to Ascension until recently. I have to confess the first battle was surprisingly difficult and I wiped in about 30 seconds. There didn’t appear to be a lot of skills to use and their rotation seemed pretty obvious but I barely dented the boss. Are there some techniques people would recommend or preparations before starting the fight. I’m Renown 80 if that helps.
Light candles, engage in prayer, and build inappropriate amounts of patience.
The Path of Ascension is the most horrific covenant content in the game, and has been since day one. People have been arguing about the tuning and incredibly uneven encounters and not a single word has ever come from blizzard.
There were some “cheats”, if you will, you could do at some point but they were hotfixed swiftly.
It’s all VERY gimmicky. Its about luck and gimmicks. Nothing more.
Good luck!
I strongly suggest looking to Wowhead for tips on doing the PoA. Even with the tips, it took me many many tries to win the first fight and then I refused to do any more, even though I wanted to buy at least one pet from the vendor, I realized it just wasn’t going to happen for me.
Your mileage may vary, but I got where I did due to the tips on Wowhead on the fights.
I used to dread Path of ascension because I read what people like the second poster on this thread said, then I actually tried it. It is very doable, I did all fights except their last rank because I am uninterested in the transmog, but I got all the other rewards, mostly for mounts. I don’t think I failed a trial more than twice? There is equipement that can help you but really you can do them all without any of it. Read what the equipment do, read what your abilities do, figure out what the enemies abilities do and play accordingly.
I think the frustration a lot of people have with PoA is that they refuse to be ‘forced’ to play differently, refuse to adapt and then complain.
Reality is you are not playing your toon in PoA, you are playing a different toon with 4 abilities, a template at that.
Meaning if you actually wanted to do it so bad, you can literally just follow a video and do exactly the same thing and you will beat the challenges, because its all the same template.
edit: I think PoA is great because it is also the only covenant game that is not timegated, you can try and try again as many times as you want to get the rewards you are looking for. I have to wait like 3 months to get a specific mount from the countess in hte venthyr game, no matter how well I prep and do the ember court, I cannot make that rep grind faster. I got all PoA mounts within 3 days and thats just because I had to wait for it to be upgraded (24 hour wait times)
I’ll check out some of the videos and Wowhead. I’m interested in the different playstyle of the game but if it’s like Mage Tower I’ll probably get frustrated. It took me a while to warm up to the Ember Court but now I really miss it, I wish we could still access content we had unlocked on a different covenant.
It really is NOT like mage tower.
mage tower you have to think about your entire spellbook, upwards to 20 abilities. not to mention talents and gear and timers
poa is 4 maybe 5 abilities with 0 combos so it is dumb-proof
