Greetings,
I have recently completed downloading the 16GB pre-patch data for the upcoming release of 8.1.
Due to the size of the patch, and having multiple people playing in my household, I am looking for a way to copy/paste the patch data from my PC to theirs, as opposed to downloading it on each and every computer.
Is it possible to simply copy/paste certain files/folders to update their, already installed/playable, WoW clients? (I remember doing this years ago but am aware the infrastructure has changed a lot since then)
Or is my only real option copying my entire WoW folder? (and if that is my only option, are there certain folders I should avoid as to keep their settings/addons/PC specific information etc?)
Thank you in advance!
The best way is just to let one computer patch. Then copy it from computer to computer/ The Interface, WTF and cache folders are were the game settings are stored. After the patch it will move the files to the new location
example old path C:\ProgramFiles(x86)\WorldofWarcraft
new path C:\ProgramFiles(x86)\WorldofWarcraft\_retail_

Don’t copy the whole wow folder. Copy just the Data folder from your World of Warcraft Folder. Copy it into the World of Warcraft folders on the other computers.
With 8.1 all stuff specific to a players install (WTF , Interface, Screenshots etc) will be moved into a _retail_ folder within the World of Warcraft folder.
If you replace only the Data folder you’ll preserve any user specific data. Make sure to do the copying and replacing with the BDA , Agent and anything Blizzard or battle.net related shut down and quit.
