Patch 9.2 Impressions

Am I the only one thinking this doesn’t feel right? Can you really call it a live patch if 50% of the content is still locked behind weeks of time gates (that’s provided that you grind enough currency drops to unlock the time gates in time)? Haven’t we waited long enough for these features already? Luckily, I’m only here for PvP and Raiding, but I’ll be laughing in a few weeks when there’s a divide between the players that started their time gates now vs later. Is there a catchup mechanic for this? It’s also a catch 22, since you need the time gates unlocked to get access to more content that increases your rep/currency drop grind. Maybe I’m just misinformed?

Considering you’re going to be in this content for probably a year, unless 9.2.5 miraculously gives us a new zone… I wouldn’t be in any hurry.

I agree. I guess what I’m worried about is how this might create a massive gap for casuals and hardcore gamers. Coming at this from a PvP perspective, if you don’t have the double legendaries (or even the right combo that the belt vs the unity power provides) you won’t be invited to ranked groups. I can only imagine raiding groups. This will seriously prevent you from gearing and being able to play the game like you envision when you click that sub button. Now, imagine having to go through this same process with alts. Want to try a new alt that you didn’t start months ago, be prepared to wait a month before you can join the competitive ranks (and click the sub button while you’re at it).

It also becomes harder (without catchup mechanics) to run through gearing systems as the patch moves forward because of the competition inherit to the game. If you’re not a streamer or in a guild, it becomes very hard to climb and climbing has become a key to progression. Actually, even if you’re in a guild it’s still a slog.

Remove time gates and everything goes away. Players with irl responsibilities can enjoy the game on their time, grind on their time, and happily join the rest of us knowing they are ready to tackle what community features 9.2 has to offer.
