Patch 8.3: My review

Patch 8.3 is just chasing more MAUs.

  • Essence grind still mostly intact? Check. Good luck with alts. >.>
  • Corrupted gear that sits in your bags till you can farm anti corruption? check.
  • Legendary cloak grind no one asked for? Check.
  • AP returning with another passive azerite slot opening up? Check.
  • AP world quests never turning into gold because AP only has a softcap. Check.
  • Patch 8.3 content that is gated weekly. Check.
  • Corrupted momento grinding for the new rental talent tree no one asked for. Check.

Bright side: New allied races and new races for DK.

Overall patch 8.3 doesn’t have lasting value. Or to be more precise patch 8.3 does not have lasting replay value.

How BFA is ending in patch 8.3 is simply a microcosm of what is all wrong with BFA in general. Everything is just pointless. What should be rewarding does not reward accordingly. Time investment erased with rentals and hard gear resets per patch cycle. Professions still neglected and PVP gearing a real mess.

Shadowlands alpha/beta better deliver as a “fix-it” expansion or else it is looking grim right now for retail. :frowning:

I was looking forward to 8.3. Now not so much, The new punishment system corruption forging looks bad. You can’t wear the upgrade til you remove the upgrade, wow that sounds fun. And another attack on flying with worm’s 3 min debuff slowing you up to 330%, yep another fun idea.

Don’t forget about class design. BFA is called Battle for Abilities for a reason. Patch 8.3 doesn’t improve the game overall outside of the new races which is a shame.

It’s hard to imagine that 8.3 and whatever scraps and hotfixes we get with 8.3.5 is all the content we will get in BFA until Dec 2020 when Shadowlands launches.

Idk, 8.3 looks pretty great to me. New races and class combos is all you care about? Lol I guess I’m glad you’re not the guy designing the game.

Best of luck to everyone who bothers, I know I wont be. Once hte patch drops Im out, BfA is bad enough as a returned player who came to see if the game had improved and was actually positively engaging (I clarify that term as from the Act-Blizz conference call earlier this year the normally positive tone of “engagement” is being usurped by c**ts like Kottick(sic) to give the impression that players doing chores because there isnt much else is positive). Unfortunately the devs (Ion from what I have seen of interviews of his position of the state of the game and the feedback I have seen from players) dont listen to the player feedback of what is destroying the game and think they know best while the dropping subs say otherwise, or it is a case of teh Activision side meddling to enforce chore mechanics as a requirement and none of the dev leadership having enough spine to call it out and communicate to the player base where these caustic mechanics are sourced from.

This.

I’m looking forward to it and will likely enjoy it from what I’ve seen.

I’ll be unsubbed so… Yea… that’s my review

It’s chasing more monthly active users? lol

You do know that you are counted the same on the MAU metric if you log in once a month for 3 seconds and log back out or if you log in 400 hours in a month, right? lol

“Monthly Active User (“MAU”) Definition: We monitor MAUs as a key measure of the overall size of our user base. MAUs are the number of individuals who accessed a particular game in a given month.”

They could bring back tier gear bis chase mechanics and put the time gate grind back into raiding.

I’m fine puzting around WQ for collectables and rep between. Add good gear in dungeons I can queue for and give me,gear to chase.

They’ve strayed too far from the roots of what made wow so great. It was such a simple and, rewarding, structure

Not to mention, from what I hear, they’ve been switching it up every few days or so. It’s like they know it’s a bad idea, but want to push it out in the least bad iteration anyway.

That aside, I am looking forward to the patch. Hopefully I can mostly ignore corruption anyway.

And even that’s debatable :grimacing: How many Alliance are genuinely excited for mechagnomes?

That’s what I’m planning on doing. 8.3 looks like the punishment patch, corruption forging, the slow, miss a day on cloak and fall behind, it just looks bad to me. At first glance it looks great until you read about all the new systems.

You know, you’re counted in MAUs when you post on the forums right ?

Maybe you shouldn’t give them the satisfaction!

BFA’s strength is on end-game content… on the challenges of its dungeons. The OP and this guy who were not pleased are just WQ/LFR guys. Of course, they wont appreciate dungeons. They dont appreciate designing Azerite piece combos. They have no access to Highend Corrupted Gear, no access to new stuffs of Essences, and will never ever have an access to Legendary Cloaks. They dont have high HoA level, they find AP grind so tedious which is very doable for casuals. Why would they appreciate Corrupted gear, highend essences and Corrupted Memento? They dont do meaningful dungeon contents where these new goodies would be useful.

I need to hear from someone who do Raids and highend Mythic+ on 8.3.

Well you obviously missed most of their comment. Like myself they enjoy playing alts. 8.3 will make it even more difficult to pick a new main with all of the unnecessary grinding.

This is starting to be problematic. They seem to realize that no flying is unpopular and refuse to design for a game with flying.

They are stuck in some bioware linear quest line, maze map design philosophy and if you can fly up and see it’s just a tiny group of sets on a back lot, that’s a problem.

They put 3 times the effort into naz and the thing is only bearable at 420+ iLvl with flight. Looks great, yes. But my god, unplayable on my priest at the start. Horrible but doable on my druid. Meca on the other hand, fun from the get go, even had built in mini flight for before you had flight.

There are too many separate grinds for qualitative character growth and 8.3 doesn’t do to much to alleviate that. Essences and azerite traits are effectively talents/passives that your spec needs in order to play as intended. Whether blizzard meant it or not, it’s a huge barrier to switching toons for raiding or other group-based play and just makes the entire schema of BfA character growth feel both arbitrary and predatory.

I just wish we were chasing something cool. I did more progression than ever before in Legion because I thought the.weapon skins were awesome. I PVP’d like never before in BfA S1 for the cool mounts and limited time mogs.

The capes I’ve seen so far are just … eh. Much like the Heart of Azeroth, it’s a stat stick I will never show on my character in future xpacs unless they make an awesome transmog set to go with it.

Yea I hated naz, did enough to get flying and now the only time i step foot in the place is to do the 4 easiest wq for the emissary. I just don’t get Blizzard, it seems like the make stuff to annoy us and drive us away on purpose.
