Patch 8.1 and Cross-Faction Roleplay

Oh, hey! I went to that on my druid! I was E’rythis I think the name was. Some spelling like that. Night elf in the bear armor. That was a blast.

The few times I was able to use this add on were amazing and exhilarating RP scenarios, they were great and I was angry to hear thatt it was rendered unusabe by the recent patch.

I highly recommend you make an exception or change for CrossRP, it has so many factors that keep it from being abused and hurts no one.

Well if we are having fun in this thread they will at least see it so they can erase it as a good anti fun police (?)

Well then, we’ll just need to keep on trying to catch their attention. Maybe I’m just being an optimist, but the amount of support that’s been drummed up- and is still coming through- has to make them at least give us a response.

Don’t mention we’re having fun, this is Blizzard country! You know what they do to people who have fun…

I was part of the cross-faction contingent of Demon Hunters who were horrified at what had happened. Even the Belf Demon Hunters were upset, the Kaldorei have been their brothers in arms for years, and to some of them like this guy, the burning of Teldrassil was too close to him losing his own family to the Scourge.

And yes, it was a blast. We came back a couple times.

As someone who runs a guild that is going to become based on cross faction communication as well as someone who has used CrossRP in big events such as the Tournament of Ages and some other big events, it’s a shame that Blizzard decided to slam the big ol’ NO FUN button down on those that enjoy the ability of being able to do such things.

You have my support, Tammy, 100000%.

I want CrossRP back, Blizzard, so you better get to it, or there’s going to be a big mob coming in your direction.

But if we’re having more fun without the addon, they will ban the “fix” so the addon comes back? :P.

What’s baffling to me is the idea that if two sides can talk to each other, it diminishes their conflict. I don’t think that can be any further from the truth, though. Being able to engage with the other side lets me see them as more than NPCs, and makes the conflict that much more personal too.

At this point, I hate to say it, but I just have no faith in Blizzard to change their tune or give Cross RP an exception. Despite demon hunters, despite pandaren, they keep shoring up how important the faction barrier is and want to maintain it at all costs–no matter how stupid it gets.

I have to second this. Back in Cataclysm I participated in a few guild-vs-guild RP/PvP events, and I remember people using battletags (or I guess it might’ve been real ID friends, back then?) as relays for things like parlay between the two camps. It added a lot of depth, but it was clunky and rather unimmersive. All CrossRP did was allow people to do the same thing, but in a way that was masterfully lightweight and fluid.

Parlay, prisoners, even something like (with a little stretch of the imagination) infiltration and scouting - the military RP applications of Cross RP are enormous. This loss diminishes us all, not just the peaceniks.

Your logic is infallible Jobin. :stuck_out_tongue: We’ll Blizzard Blizzard so we don’t get Blizzarded?!

I only ever used this addon once, but it was definitely a cool experience. I support this addon and implore you, Blizzard, to restore its functionality or consider loosening the communication barrier between the factions.

As others have stated, you already have pandaren, demon hunters, and void elves able to speak across faction lines. We see characters communicating across the factions all the time both in Lore and in the game itself. I know the most common argument: that enabling communication across the factions will promote some kind of toxicity the likes of which we’ve never seen before. But if other MMOs can do it – if I can do it in other Blizzard games like Overwatch where opposing teams can speak to each other in the middle of a match – why is there such a fear here?

Tammy writes amazing addons, EmoteSplitter being the one I use the most. The restrictions on how CrossRP works were already identified multiple times in previous replies. The addon works to alleviate any exploiting/toxicity/griefing concerns I’ve ever seen raised. It truly was a great thing that I, and scores of others, would like to see return.

So please, Blizzard, consider returning CrossRP’s functionality to us. And if there is some type of security risk or technical concern we’re simply not aware of, at least let the community know. Making us aware of what’s going on here is half the battle. If whatever technical/security issues there may be overrule our desire to have this addon reinstated, please consider making your own moves to loosen the communication barrier. I know that both I and the rest of the RP community would greatly appreciate it.

Ah, jeez. Reading that just made my head hurt, lol.

I’m a roleplayer and I fully support cross RP. Or even taking the barrier which is really just a bunch of nonsense off of roleplay realms. We have a report function. We have an ignore function.

There’s nothing stopping anyone from griefing me on my own faction. It’s happened way more than the opposite faction doing it to me. Are they going to put a pointless block in to stop that? Of course not. It would be silly.

Times change, Blizzard, and I believe that on RP realms, the chat block has to go. People can report others for being terrible just like they already do to people on their own faction. If someone wants to be toxic, they’ll find a way to do it regardless of barrier.

I know most players hate roleplayers. But this wouldn’t affect you, and despite our relatively hated community, we’d like to not be thrown away like so many want us to be.

Haha sorry, just having a bit of fun.

No worries, I’m just teasing. :stuck_out_tongue: Besides, we need a few more blizzard-isms in there. Really catch 'em!

CrossRP is a massive stride in pushing for the pristine nature of an amazing Warcraft roleplay environment. Bring it back, I want to give all my Alliance friends flowers ;-;

Even if Blizzard would rather not bring CrossRP’s functionality back specifically for one reason or another, I’d urge them to consider at least… bringing something functionally similar as a sort of opt-in for interested players.

In an expansion about a faction war, especially for roleplayers, it’s pretty important for their enjoyment and their investment to actually be able to interact with the opposite faction. Not much of a war if you’re staring at each other from across lines, or doing out-of-character PVP type stuff.
