As one of the twitch hostesses for this years Tournament of Ages, I cannot stress enough how amazing the add-on was for the community. While walking around and streaming, we were able to interact, speak with, and I even made new friends and found long lost ones due to Cross-RP.
Tammy is an absolutely amazing person who pours their heart out for this community, making add-ons for us Roleplayers to have a much better time while playing this game.
Blizzard, if you honestly don’t see how this has effected us as a community, then I strongly advise you to take the time to read each and every comment, because let’s face it, we deserve to have a voice.
Support to the CrossRP creator. Man, thanks millions for that add on. I got into RP in AD EU and got very bored about it. There was far too much stereotypical characters. Worgen Nobles etc. I am not an RP elitist, but things never seemed to change.
But then Cross RP came around. Man that opened up so many worlds. I watched how war drums event went on. Then RP’d occasionally many characters. As a refugee from both NElves and Forsaken, an Angry Forsaken guard, an Orc supporting the Sylvannas, a Lightforge hell bent on destroying the horde. And Occasionally we had a nice crossfaction party for halloween where I was just a Nice druid trying to be positive in difficult times.
This was my world. I had insane fun with the CrossRP people. Now its gone. It will never be same. I wish Blizzard look into this. Because like… the game sucks. I dont have any content till the next raid. The lore was garbage. My fun on this down time was heading to a neutral zone and RP something. Now its gone
If this is gone for good, dear creator of the addon, thank you very much for the brief fun time you gave us. I had so much enjoyment using your addon than this stupid god forsaken dirt of an expansion being among people. I dont know how to thank you, but you have my support.
I’m in full support of this add-on. Please allow it o live once more. This expands so much more interaction for the RP community in both a neutral setting as well as in the narrative as well.
I’m the leader of a cross faction RP guild. We’ve got a long history on the server as being the group that helped facilitate cross faction RP; before bnet was introduced we’d be the one hopping into Vent or Mumble and cut-and-pasting conversations between Horde and Alliance players.
We loved the addition of Bnet and the old Bnet Conversations, even if they had small group limits. We were super sad when Blizzard took away conversations without any warning.
When Battlenet communities were announce? AWESOME. And then Cross RP? EVEN BETTER.
It’s been a huge boon to my guild. We’ve slowly been moving more Horde-ward due to how much fun it isn’t to be alt-tabbing into Discord or only having one-on-one whispers. It’s the first time in ages I’ve been able to attend events on Derscha without having to fire up the second account or rely on someone /whispering me everything.
Plus, we recently held our annual cross faction Armistice Ball and invited everyone to use Cross RP with us. It was a hit! It was easily one of the easiest managed and most fun balls I’ve run in all my years as the guild GM. I had to giggle a couple of times when someone forgot they were talking to someone on the other faction and tried to do a /trade for drinks
I would love to see this addon be saved from being yet another tale of nostalgia. RP is the main reason I’ve stayed with WoW for so long, and Cross RP brought back life to our little corner of the RP world.
I wanted to comment that the changes that made either purposefully or by accident have broken addons that have nothing to do with cross-faction talk. One of which is my addon which modifies all forms of chat to color player names that are typed out, amongst other things. The other is an addon that simply logs the contents of chat. If interested, you may find our discussion about said breakage here: www.wowinterface dot com/forums/showthread.php?p=331006
Edit: I would point out, that this change ONLY affects my addon and the other author’s addon with respect to chat generated through the CHAT_MSG_GUILD event (guild chat)
I try very hard to see things from the developer’s perspective when making changes that on the surface seem harmful toward what should be the ultimate goal of players having fun in a video game.
This is one of many recent changes that I cannot possibly defend unless a detailed explanation of how this can be exploited or how it risks privacy is provided.
I am honestly exhausted at the constant, deliberate effort to nerf, remove, or break everything in the game that can be harnessed for harmless fun that does not involve walking on the gameplay treadmill that the game has fallen into.
Remember years ago when Winter Veil pets were randomly changed to die if they were summoned outside of the holiday? What about all of the toys that get longer cooldowns, shorter durations, and more situations in which they break? Now one of the best tools for the very neglected roleplay community, of which is constantly subjected to the whiplash of design flip-flops regarding CRZ, sharding, and phasing, was taken from us… why?
It feels like developers are at war with one another, with conflicting design philosophies and no approval process. We get wonderful features such as Communities which allow us to talk to players on completely different games; or somewhere away from their computer even, but talking cross-faction through /say is unacceptable?
I get it - this is a world at war. Battle for Azeroth is all about war. You can sell that fantasy and you can sell it well, but that does not need to come with the burden of a faction divide between players. CrossRP shouldn’t be a thing because it shouldn’t need to be a thing. The two-faction conflict makes for a fine story but, as every other MMO out there has discovered, it is harmful when it is taken so literally as to divide the playerbase. Keep us questing in different areas, keep guards hostile to one another, but we don’t need to be stuck in 2004 where we can’t play - let alone talk - with our friends on opposite factions.
The ability for Pandaren and Demon Hunters to talk cross-faction isn’t a “cool little thing” they have, that’s a fundamental feature in modern day MMORPGs that needs to finally be adopted here.
The big thing about Cross RP is that it’s not a new “exploit.” It’s just based off of the new features that Blizzard added, namely the factionless Battlenet communities. Basically, Blizzard is who added the function for players to chat across the language barrier, and that’s what I built Cross RP on top of.
Tammya takes her addon making seriously, and very much makes sure that as many issues as possible are worked out. Every addon she’s made, she’s literally sat in game for hours on end testing it real time and adjusting things as needed. She has a drive to improve the game for people, especially roleplayers, and all of her addons have done so.
CrossRP is just the latest of her addons and the most ambitious, but I know it shares the same quality as the others, and I really hope Blizzard sees fit to either fix a mistake they made, or revert the deliberate change they made, to benefit the most consistently loyal portion of their playerbase.
I don’t think this will get a reply. Most that do, half the thread is filled with people defending the action or pointing our why other side is just wrong. I don’t rp at all but this thread shows pretty much 100% support for it. Kinda odd for the forums and I support it as well. Unless they say how it was exploited so severely that it needed to be killed.
To be fair on Blizz, they could still be in discussions about it. The forum mods can’t make decisions on something like this. They may not respond until they’ve got actual answers, which may take a few days.
I’m adding another voice in support of this addon. CrossRP gave people new ways to expand RP, and did so in a way that wasn’t exploitative or damaging to the game. The creator, who’s an absolute legend, took steps to make sure that was the case. RP realms only, disabled in BGs, are two examples. Demon Hunters and panda bears can already speak to each other. Why can’t the rest of us do the same, especially if it’s shut down outside of battlegrounds?
Speaking personally, I’ve been playing this game since about a month after launch. The thing that keeps me coming back to this game is RP. Cross RP gave all of us new ways to do that, and needs to be kept around.
My concern is that they’re just hoping we lose interest without bringing it up. If it’s actually deliberate, it wasn’t in the patch notes and was snuck in under the radar, thinking no one would notice or they would dismiss it.
Just a heads up for those who don’t know, but earlier today it seems that Blizz snuck a provision into the ToS explicitly forbidden facilitation of cross-faction communication.
So theyr’e trying to cover their backsides from a clearly negative response to their poorly thought out actions, as usual.
That legal document isn’t part of the US documents. There’s a working link yes, but it isn’t listed in the US legal documents index page. That being said, the wording of its rule is quite vague, and I would say (with no authority) that it’s mainly targeting 3rd parties who would create an exploit to bridge the language barrier.
In the case of Cross RP, the medium used is part of the game (newly added communities), so there’s nothing wrong with it.
