Supposedly this is going to bring back some class differences like their used to be like when each class had their own buffs and stuff to make classes less homogenized.
At the same time water walking for everyone.
Goodbye path of frost and shaman water walking.
At least before people would have to grind out some rep to get it and be limited to ugly mount.
my guess is other classes might take water walking, but i imagine most dks will take daze immunity and continue to use PoF. of course with pathfinder part 2 coming out im not sure any of it matters.
I mean overall it doesn’t matter much at all but everything they give to every other class just makes picking classes that much less interesting to me.
Let’s give everyone a brez, farsight, summon… you get the idea.
Honestly, everyone and their mother had a water strider so it really didn’t matter that much before. Non-DKs & Shaman used water striders. DKs and Shaman used whatever they wanted.
Going forward you’ll see fewer water striders clogging up the landscape, and they were ugly. And we’ll still be ahead because we get permanent daze immunity and still water walk without issue.
I don’t really see the problem.
Plus the only reason this was an issue anyway was due to the absolutely obnoxious time gating of flight, which will be removed as a aggravation relatively soon thereafter.
Doesn’t make the time gating better since that’s already spilt milk in time we can’t ever recover that’s putting another indelible black mark on BfA, but at least going forward the ridiculousness is over until the next xpack.
I don’t have one myself and my DK is one of my many characters at max level.
Homogenization is a bad thing.
How about they give demon hunter wings to everyone as an option just like water walking too. It really helps get around the world especially when flight is not available. Sure we have parachute and gliders but it’s not nearly as good. Water striders were actually better than shaman water walking because you didn’t have to get off your mount and cast water walking again so if we are going to hand out helpful travel abilities from other classes lets spread the love and stop hogging all the gliding and dashing mid air.
You can use engineering to get a similar effect to gliding as a DH.
So next patch they give water walking to everyone and make a new engineering recipe that is an upgraded parachute which allows you the same ability to glide as a DH. Not the ability to dash just to glide. Opening and closing your parachute just like a DH.
No, Ion said in his latest video that they realize that pruning went to far, and they focused too much on spec, at the expense of class fantasy. There are no changes in 8.2 relating to those comments by Ion. You have to wait for 9.0 to see if he is really going to act on those ideas. I’m not holding my breath.
They said BFA would bring back class uniqueness & especially class unique buffs, but Ion says a lot of things, it’s why people should be less excited when he says he will “fix” things next expansion.
Some are missing it, the class unique buffs is specifically what we are talking about here, path of frost being one of those.
I’m not really excited to have it become easier for people to walk around on the water when one of the DK/shaman class specific buffs is related to that feature. The same way I would assume mages would not be excited to have people gain access to provide group portals to major cities.
Personally I find it much more entertaining for a rogue to be THE class for locking picking (I know engineers can do this)., mages for portals/summoning food, etc.
I really like the fact that Shaman’s have managed to maintain farsight. It’s a unique ability to them of which a weaker version can be obtained through some items and the hunter ability but not as good as farsight. Farsight allows you to cast an aoe ability that will set your camera at another location to scout around the map and it has unlimited range. You can continue to cast it from your last location so that you can scope out a place before going in. Or you can find the enemy EFC in their base even if you’re all the way back in your own base.
These things are not combat related but are unique things about classes that give them a bit more flavor. Path of frost was one of those things. It’s not very inspiring to have it watered down by making it easier or more accessible and it just feels like mixed messaging to me.
That’s exactly my point though. Shaman water walking is superior to the potion in many ways as is path of frost but all 3 of those have their own strengths. The potion can be used by another class at another time without the DK or shaman needing to be there. The Shaman water walking does not require people to be in your party but requires the shaman to be dismounted to cast. Path of frost requires people to be in your party to get the benefit but you can cast it while mounted.
Let’s have more class uniqueness and less homogenization. Druids port to Moonglade is very niche but it’s still an interesting ability for the class to have and I really thought it was cool when I was playing a druid in Vanilla.
My point tho is that bdk needs it’s own mount equipment. Otherwise ill never buy any.
I would also think that engineering already somewhat steps on mage territory with the toys but not as you were saying with multiple players getting ported
Maybe they can give all DK’s the equivalent of a rogues shroud ability as a utility that is abused in M+ so much these days.
You want a fast M+ and skip mobs ensure you have a rogue as they are the only class that can achieve this without using things that effect performance in terms of dps etc. anything else causes the players to not be able to use key items like potions etc.
I am obviously joking but the issue with Shroud is a real problem in terms of M+ group management. You could have rogues doing zero dps and they will still be needed in M+ for this reason regardless.
The game does need another alternative method to achieve the same function that the rogues offer so maybe a DK having his party slip into the place between life and death and be protected by an aura that the DK has ensuring they are pulled into the various death realms like the Shadowlands? If the players all stay in the aura it’s fine however maybe somehow they step out they risk being pulled and trapped in the death realms somehow. It could be an interesting concept for DK’s to provide a Shroud type function in this way that provides that utility but has a different downside to it than being seen and attacked in terms of shroud?
