Any quick glance at the Statistics in Warcraftlogs or even running a random Dungeon with Melee and Ranged, and the obvious difference between these 2 play styles is abundant. Having to try and move constantly, only to try and replant before the next 1-hit-mechanic comes around, and potentially get a 2 to 3 second cast off is beyond annoying and completely doesn’t work with the current iteration of the game. Not only is that the ‘blight’ of being a caster, but lets say you do get to complete some casts during any content in this game that isn’t a raid boss, take a quick look at the damage meters and try not to laugh. Caster life is Double the effort for half the dps. I do know, some people are great at casters and there are examples of this. I’m talking about the general standard of the game in Dungeon finders and or random groups. Going from Windwalker to a Demo lock in a dungeon is like spending more money to Replace your Ferrari with a Toyota Camry. Re-balance casters down whatever is required and give them the ability to move and cast. Welcome them into year 2024 Where wow is a nonstop second by second putrescence of 1 shot mechanics one after the other please.
I was thinking the opposite of this post. Having uptime as melee right now is frustrating. You have to run out every 5 seconds, the bosses teleport around and phase and do intermissions. I have to use a GCD on Feint every 15 seconds. Shadowstep around constantly, Sprint. Everything.
You can just stand there and cast on most of these fights as ranged, you don’t need to be in melee range for these adds.
Play a fire mage, Combustion burst windows are all about instant casts. But yeah, for me I wish casters had a little more of the old school turret gameplay. I used to love playing mage, but if you’re standing around hard-casting Fireball nowadays, you’re doing it wrong. Destro warlock still lets you turret a bit with Chaos Bolt, but you still have to use your instant casts when you’re moving around.
It’s just the nature of WoW design at the moment. For melee dps, it’s all about dodging ground swirlies, and for casters it’s knowing how much to move to avoid a mechanic. It seems the only way Blizz can up the difficulty of an encounter is to force players to move. I think it would be cool to bring back some Patchwerk style dungeon bosses that are a pure dps race. Some of us just want to turret spells into a boss =)
