Patch 10.2 has a new memory leak

Thank goodness we are saved

Yeah it got to ~19 GB in the hour or so I had it open. but as you said…

We now have a fix. Supposedly. Let’s see how it does … so far looks good – the memory footprint will now go down on occasion. Will edit with further results.

Never had a memory leak until today so it doesnt seem to be fixed

did tons of outdoor content plus entire raid, stayed stable at 8GB, which is norm on apple silicon on my settings. how high was yours. anyone stating they have a new memory leak or still have one needs to be more specific

One of my raid team plays on an M1 MacBook and he says memory use shot up to 49GB after we’d spent a couple of hours in the new raid.

Even though I don’t play regularly on my Mac anymore, I still have WoW setup and occasionally play it there. This is on a 2018 Macbook Pro with 32GB.

With 10.2, I have a character sitting AFK in Valdrakken, and the memory usage has steadily crept up. It’s currently at 18.64GB and increases by ~.02GB every few seconds.

I’m same as Omegal, was having the memory leak before the fix and now playing for hours in multiple types of content (M+, raid, pvp) and no memory leak now, stays at 8-8.1gb and doesn’t go higher. M1 Macbook pro for me.

Those still leaking, make sure you actually installed new update, if you bypass launcher or something and use old one it might still be able to login and leak?

If you most certainly have latest buildand are leaking to memory as high as 18 or more GB, then definitely post information about location, addons etc. it also helps if you knowhow to profile addon memory (mouse over monitor icon thing) to make sure an addon isn’t memory leaking cause that’d still inflate heap size over time.

I’m trying the test again. 2018 Intel Macbook Pro OS 14.1

Latest build 52188 that was pushed this morning (11/16)
No addons for this test.

Sitting in Valdrakken just outside of the bank.

Memory started at just under 4GB and is slowly rising which is to be expected for the location. I’m going to let it sit here for some time and see what it does.

Using top in Terminal.app to monitor it is showing a fairly steady increase in memory usage, but it hasn’t climbed past 5GB yet. I’ll let it sit for half an hour or so.

Update:
After letting the game run for an hour with a character doing nothing in Val, memory usage has climbed to over 24GB.

Oh right, the metal 2 memory leak that’s why some of you are still leaking. Yeah that’s a different and sadly apple bug. GPUs that are using Metal 2 api instead of Metal 3, have had a memory leak since Ventura or higher.

To be clear, issue in this thread is fixed.

Those of you still leaking are getting this:

and the only work around we ever found, was getting a new gpu/mac that uses metal 3 :. or just continuing to use gxrestart command to clear leak often.

Except that I’m running Sonoma 14.1 and System Info is telling me that my version of Metal is indeed 3.

Maybe more of a radeon/metal 3 issue?

That is interesting. Even my friend on an old intelmac with AMD can only reproduce that old leak if using metal 2. She switches to a diff gpu that is metal 3 compliant just to avoid it.

Post as much info about your specs as possible, and exactly where you reproduce your issue

I’m running an RX 6900 XT on Sonoma 14.1 on a 2019 Intel Mac Pro – it’s not leaking for me according to Activity Monitor.

Welp, time to necro this post. As of today, myself and my friend have run into this issue, she is on windows 10 with an evga 1080 and 16 gigs of ram, I’m on windows 11 with an asus 1650 with 16 gigs of ram. If i dont restart after the first memory crash i crash again as soon as i load into a toon. She crashes every so often in the middle of battlegrounds or in the open world. The ingame command works for her, i rarely get the chance to use it before i have to restart my whole setup

this specific leak was fixed. You’ll probably want to create a new thread with detailed reports and any memory usage statistics to diagnose where your issue is coming from. probably also more likely to get help on windows tech support forum since you’re both on windows
