Party Sync

I’m not sure where to post this, so I chose bug report so if this is in the wrong section I’m sorry. So basically when I try to party sync with someone I’m in a party with, the game doesn’t shrink my level or scale down my damage, so pretty much I just go around and kill everything instantly. If I remember corrected last expansion I was able to play with a friend of mine that was around level 25-30, I was 120, and when we party synced I believed it had scaled me down to level 110? maybe 80 I honestly cant remember. But back then I wasn’t able to one tap every mob. But ever since shadowlands came out, party sync scaling doesn’t seem to work anymore. I’ve tried party syncing as a level 60 while someone was like 20. And I have also tried to party sync as a level 42 DK. Anyone have any thoughts. Hopefully its just someone simple. Any help is much appreciated.

If you are party syncing with someone below 50, it should scale you down to 50 (which you can see indicated by your character pane (C)). However, which zone you are in also matters. If they are not in Chromie time, the mobs won’t scale to 50 and you will still overpower them. Each zone has a much smaller window of appropriate levels since the squish. If you open up the continent map you’re in and hover over the zone, it will show what level the zone is designed for. It used to be that you couldn’t join someone in Chromie time when you were above 50 as you’d be phased out from seeing them, but I learned recently that is no longer the case and it should phase you with the lower level player in their Chromie phase. The person you’re with would need to talk to Chromie in Org/SW and change their timeline so all the mobs scale to 50 or you’d need to quest in BFA zones where all the mobs scale to 50 automatically. There have been some changes since I leveled when Chromie time came out and I haven’t done much since I learned of the phasing change, so hopefully I haven’t provided any inaccurate info, but if you haven’t tried the things above, I would give it a shot.

I’m trying to use party sync in Eastern kingdoms, I don’t know too much about this as I mostly play solo. So basically my damage wont scale if I’m trying to party sync with someone in Eastern Kingdoms or Kalimdor?

No, not unless the person you’re questing with has the Chromie Cataclysm timeline selected. Actually, they can have any timeline selected and all old zones will scale, but the one you choose will determine which dungeons are available for queueing, so it’s easiest to choose the one you’re questing in. You will always be level 50 when party syncing and mobs will stop scaling around 30ish in vanilla zones, I think.

Alright, that makes sense. Thanks for your help, I looked all over the forums for this but couldn’t find anything. Thanks again

You’re welcome! It has changed a good bit from the BFA version, so it’s understandable to have some confusion. There will probably be some other things to consider once Dragonflight comes out, as well, but that should work for you for now.

One more question actually. I forgot you cant select a timeline with Chromie as a level 60, I’m trying to select cata. How would I go to scale myself down as a 60 if I cant use Chromie time. For example I have a level 60 Warrior and id like to tank the mobs for my friend.

Your friend would need to select Chromie time Cata on their end, and the party leader would choose party sync. That should work to both sync your quest progress and scale the mobs. As I said before, it used to not work that way when Chromie time was released, but I tested it recently based on a Reddit thread and I was able to see my alt on my second account in a Northrend zone once Chromie time was selected on the alt. If all else fails, you could quest in BFA and only need to select party sync and can ignore Chromie.

Oh okay I understand now, I mid-read the fist post of yours, sorry about that I should have paid better attention. Thanks for the quick response time It saves a ton of time.
