Parsing is the culmination of MMORPG dopamine "big number" addiction

Parsing and using logs is a serious sign that people only raid as a means to make the numbers bigger, so they get a bigger dopamine hit. WoW has been reduced to numbers. The fight mechanics don’t matter to these people. The lore doesn’t matter to these people. It doesn’t matter how fun Blizzard makes the game to these people, and the sooner Blizzard realizes that, the sooner they’ll stop catering to them.

Ty for the observation.

Parsing can be fun. Humans are competitive by nature. Of course it feels good to know you’re a big pumper.

There’s nothing else to do once you’ve run the only raid a few times.

Sabermetrics…. WAR

Blame baseball

ban parsing
ban logging
ban saying “no” to people who want to join your raid group

It’s just kid’s trying to get high score in a video game. Kinda weird for a rpg but whatever. Let people play how they want.

How many times must I remind you, grey parsers (like you) are NOT entitled to play with these dopamine chasers, people you allegedly hate. You’ve got Parsing Derangement Syndrome at this point. If they’re filtering themselves out from playing with you as well, what’s the issue? Seems like harmony.

Empirical analysis

Use your words

actually they are :expressionless:
not allowing them to raid with whoever they want is griefing

As a guild and raid leader, I need to understand who is being carried and doesn’t understand what the hell is going on

With that in mind, a few times since SoD release I’ve saved some of my membes from just quiting because we came to them with help to better themselves because they knew they were not doing well.

As an example, one of our warriors was doing really bad DPS. The mechanics he was able to grasp, but he was relatively new to the game. He stopped signing up for raids in our Discord but didn’t want to see him go even though he wasn’t performing so hot, so we helped him get the appropriate runes, gave him the resources, and so on and now he parses about average/slightly above average which is where I expect my members to be in most scenarios

Does toxic behavior come from parse expectations? yeah, I’ve seen it. But can it be helpful? Also yes.

If you see yourself being rejected from groups and at the same time rejecting help or willingness to use info that is avilable to you to improve your performance, then you are the problem.

Bro its Gnomer…

is parsing is gone the raids better be easy as !@#$
which then ruins the game for coordinated guilds- which the game is mostly built around

Blizzard absolutely MUST ban players who perform better than us boomers. It’s unfair that I can simply be excluded from a raid group due to my performance. I pay the same $15 as the rest of you all. I’m entitled to join the same raids.

I like seeing myself improve week to week

If you are fine with mediocrity, that’s fair too though

Boomers are the ones using addons to play the game for them
Zoomers, we HATE addons!

Aww jeez there are addons that play the game for me i gotta get some of those magic addons!!!

Wah wah

I agree. Addons should be banned from the game completely. The combat log should be removed as well, along with inspecting each other. Who cares what gear I have? That’s none of your business.

Let me preface this by saying that I don’t parse well.

I don’t like PVP and even with my skill level, any PVE content apart from Gnomer is trivial. There are no dungeon bosses that live long enough for me to really test my DPS. I have cleared Gnomer with my raid group more than half a dozen times and it’s on farm for us now.

Given those facts, there isn’t much for me to do with my main right now but try to get better and better at the fights in Gnomer. Parses are how I can track my improvement (or lack thereof). I have a single blue parse to my name and I was proud of myself for getting there.

I care about mechanics, and anyone with decent parses has to as well because you can’t do good DPS if you are dead. I enjoy the lore, but it isn’t new or different the 12th time I’m in the raid than it was the first time. I enjoy the fights in Gnomer and I have fun trying to maximize my DPS.

Worrying about parses is only a problem when you use that as a justification for excluding people. That kind of elitist culture will continue without parses. They will just find some other reason to exclude people either because of gear or spec.

Parsing is not the problem. Worrying about your own parses is not the problem. Elitism and gatekeeping are the problem.
