I recently started reading my logs in M+, whats the difference between parse% and key%? Also how good of a metric are these for healers?
Hps metrics for healers are bait. If everyone is doing what they’re supposed to, you won’t have very much healing. If everyone stands in every swirl, you’ll be an hps God.

As I understand (others feel free to correct me if I’m wrong,) key % is the percentile for that specific key level, for example a 20 AA, whereas your regular parse would be the percentile for all AAs.
This pretty much, even for raids to an extent.

Yeah for raids it’s especially true. As much as I enjoy to shoot for high hps parses. It’s always a factor of how bad everyone was at taking extra dmg they didn’t need to, how bad the other healers are, and how fast the boss died from good or bad DPS.

True healers dont measure themselves in how big their raw healing is but in how low their overhealing is.
overhealing = no benefit.
IMO, if the key is timed you did what you needed to. Good players can save healers from a lot of stress, but there’s healing checks in a lot of dungeons regardless.

The top healing parses usually have a combination of factors like you say
- Guild in a level lower than usual (so a mythic guild clearing N/H)
- Short boss kill time
- Comp that’s light on healers (the absolute top usually only run 1-3 healers)
It’s virtually impossible to get a good parse in a healer-heavy comp unless the other healers are dead weight or the rest of the group is scuffing pulls.
Overhealing doesn’t mean jack.
You overheal less if your class’ mechanics work that way. The more absorbs or passive healing you can take advantage of, the less you’ll overheal, and the more you’ll make other healers overheal. If you cast a heal to top people up in preparation for a big spike, but that heal crit, congrats you just overhealed, but you also did the correct move, and it’s not like it cost you anything. You can overheal more if you were just doing normal group healing, and one person has a stronger personal CD than another.

For M+, parse % includes all key levels and key% is only for that key level.
Parse% is basically completely useless in M+.
