Paper Tank?

Quick question? Is monk hard to play or why is it that DK and Bears can pull the whole isntance without me spending a single heal on them an monks explode in the first pack? They feel super squishy and are annoying to heal

There’s definitely something wrong with brewmaster right now. I don’t think it’s just a tuning issue. I’ve mained the spec since mop release, and it’s never felt this weird before. Something is definitely off but I can’t put my finger on it. I’m noticing a lot that my hp will go down quickly but my stagger will never go above green, like stagger isn’t working properly. I’m not sure, it would be best to ask around Peak. I haven’t looked into it seriously yet because I just started heroics.

I wouldn’t be surprised if there was something wrong with stagger because of the new ox talent or something.

Additionally, Expel Harm is feeling very weak lately, even with a few orbs. I recently hit 80 though and maybe it’s a gear thing? shrug It feels like it barely even blips my HP bar though.

I’ve noticed expel does about nothing.

Other than the nerfs to self healing in expel harm and orbs I have been tanking just fine, pulling multiple packs with minimal concern. I’m not sure stagger is “broken” it’s just the start of an expansion and stagger improves throughout an expansion as it’s very gear dependant. Going from the end of DF to the beginning of TWW it just feels weak because we don’t have the same relative agility to make it absorb more.

That being said I wouldn’t mind a little of the self healing back to counter the lower stagger and it can be readjusted later.

As far as when I am healing tanks on my healers by far the worst seems to be the average bear tank, monks are way better to heal than bears are currently in my experiences so far.

So, my buddy and I been going NUTS on dungeons and doing absolutely massive pulls.
As an example, the ENTIRE first room of Cinderbrew Meadery. Yes, it’s like an equivalent to 7 packs + miniboss that stuns (RoP does noting there sadly too) But If I get stuneed = dead. The only way I live through 4 second stun is spirit link.

Even with such massive pull, the damage is HORRIBLE…absolutely HORRIBLE. Acid Raid from rsham does nearly same damage alone than my entire BrM rotation.

Expel Harm is basically useless.
VIvify is a joke
With the way stagger ramps up, Purifying needs to have like 10 charges.
Celestial Brew feels utterly useless. Comparing to how it felt in Shadowlands, it just feels like hot garbage now.

My buddy, rsham, he pulls 1.5 mil HPS on that big pack pull. He says I’m paper. Even tho I’m itemized somewhat properly. Celestial Fortune (Passive) feels like the only thing thats keeping me alive lmao

I had to basically scrap my offensives and go nearly full defensive build. That’s the only way I can survive bigger pulls.

Im not some top tier player by any means, but I have tanked 22’s - 24’s in Shadowlands.

A lot also depends on the DPS gang. Of course, the faster mobs die, the less stagger I get to deal with. But i gotta say, Niuzao feels mandatory. It mades such a huge difference.
I feel like BrM need some defensive and raw damage buffs.

I’m going to assume you don’t grasp the, how can I put this nicely, delusion of complaining about how you (a BrM) are made of paper while also being able to pull 7 packs plus a miniboss that stuns and live.

I should have mentioned that my friend, who plays vDH, does this exact same pull and our Rsham says there is night and day difference. And vDH also do like quadruple amount of damage it seems.

So no, there is no delusion.

I was able to tank pretty much entier wing of Arden in De Other Side in 20+ keys and here we can’t even tank 1 room.

edit: Myself with my Rsham, we can execute that pull perfect with zero deaths about 50% of the time. But it requires perfect cooldown usage from both of us. We did that dungeon for about 5 hours last night doing first boss runs to get the trinket. It never dropped. Prob like 30 40 kills?

Depending on how they’re speced, a Guardian seems to do a ton of self healing still and has a lot of stray healing on the group if people are in range of after the wildfire.

The worst experience I’ve had in a dungeon as a healer is with a Brewmaster tank, pulling all the trash in Meadery at once before the first boss. He did survive but not all the DPS did. Part of what made it worse was I was on a 550 ilvl alt doing my very first heroic on that character as a spec I wasn’t super familiar with. I was hoping to random into literally any other dungeon since tanks always overpull in Meadery and it’s hellish when you’re on a lower geared healer.

unless you have a shaman healer, it isnt worth even pulling the whole first meadery room. People always do this when im healing on my druid and its miserable. Just do 2 pulls and it will be much smoother. That said, Brm tank is the squishiest, and so far dk/vdh seem to be the best from what ive healed. BrM didnt feel great to heal in df either though, and given how the devs deal with monk i expect it to continue to be bad.

  1. Monk takes more damage than other tanks as the downside of overrated stagger. Blizzard made it clear that it was their intention.
  2. Monk has the worst scaling with pull size. Bear has infinite scaling with pulls size and sucks on small pulls. Bdk is bdk, they only die to oneshot.
