Title.
I have a couple questions in regards to the Pandaren:
- Are there other “tribes” that are known of besides the ones Tushui and Houjin?
- Would it be fine for a Pandaren RPer to rp a Pandaren who isn’t in one of the former clans/tribes?
- If your answer to Question #2 is no then:
Do you think with the new starting zone, that’ll open the possibility to NOT be in those tribes?
Thanks in advance!
I have very little confidence in this “One starting zone fits all” plan.

Well how i’m thinking of it, depending on how they go about it for Pandaren specifically too. When we get to pick a faction, if it doesn’t have to do with going through Tushi or Houjin, then technically a Pandaren RPer could state they are a Pandaren period in their faction.
I’m reminded that somewhere out there is a very lonely level 120 neutral… still picking flowers. in eternal exile on the Wandering Isle.

yea that’s a possibility too.
I’m more so thinking of simply being independent or part of a different tribe, while still having full access to the game as well, lmao.
Yes, actually. We know that there’s nomadic tribes of pandaren living in the Great Sea that are constantly moving from island to island. We know very little about them, other than that they exist—all of the lore for them comes from three sentences in a single quest.

Plenty of pandaren from both Pandaria and The Wandering Isle don’t belong to either of them. For instance, the most famous pandaren traveler, Chen Stormstout, is neither Tushui nor Huojin. The player character is forced to pick one for gameplay mechanics (since you have to be Alliance or Horde), but there’s many neutral pandaren in the lore, and many roleplayers choose to be one.
Awesome thanks for confirming that. I was pulled to asked cause i saw a similar notion mentioned in text and that got me thinking, lmao.
Now, would you happen to know of any names for them? lol
on the topic of being part of one for the two, happy to know there are options lol.
So any Pandaren in the alliance or Horde can not be in those tribes and still be considered canon right?
No, currently they’re almost a complete mystery.
We know of at least two instances of pandaren joining the Alliance and Horde that weren’t Tushui or Huojin—the villages you help out in Kun-Lai Summit.

Thing is Tushui and Huojin are not tribes as much as beliefs. Pandaren that are not either could easily see times when both are needed. After all, even in Shadow of War (the book on Vol’jin) had some one describe his attitude as Tushui when it was the Huojin that joined the Horde.

Tushui and Huojin are schools of thought. Philosophical disciplines as taught under Master Shang Xi on the Wandering Isle. They are both halves of the same whole.
We don’t know of any other specific schools aside from the teachings of the Celestials on Pandaria.
Yes. Pandaren are nothing if not open to new ways of thinking.
They probably won’t acknowledge it, and instead just at the end of the quests go, “As a pandaren, you pick which side to choose.”
If you played Jade Empire, Tushui and Huojin correspond roughly to the Open Palm and Closed Fist philosophies from that game. Note that both can be heroic, but Huojin is more concerned with decisive action than careful planning.
Hey all! OP hur
See that’s my thing is I don want my Pandaren to be in either clan/school whatever. I want to keep that open-ended for my own story.
I brought up the new starting zone cause if the school aren’t there for panda I’m thinking that cement the notion of not being apparat of them.
