Pally Tanks: Aegis Not Stacking with Redoubt?

So I’ve been researching and optimizing my Pally tank and I have a question:

Why are Aegis and Redoubt Not Cumulative?

Aegis gives you 30% block value and a 10% chance on hit to gain 30% Block Chance. Redoubt gives you 30% block chance on a critical hit. Both are 10 seconds or 5 blocks. Now realistically the chances of both of these triggering are rare. Even so it wouldn’t add to 60%. It would raise by 30% and then raise by 30% of that if this occurred (Diminishing). Even at higher levels in SOD with Holy shield raising this another 30% this is nowhere near overpowered nor is it even amazing at best. You would think Paladins who rely on their block for most of their damage mitigation could use everything they could get.

I’m just not understanding how this restriction is even needed. Thoughts?

They gave you aegis so you dont have to rely on being critted to proc. They are not the same

When i user to run aegis, it procd all the time… why? Bc having a 10% chance to proc while being hit is way better than procing from a crit

the idea is that aegis is mean to be an ALTERNATIVE for redoubt, or more specifically, a REPALCEMENT for it. Admittedly there’s not really much else worth taking in the first 5 talent points of prot, and shield specialization DOES stack with the 30% from aegis, it’s still worth taking in the end.

However, if you’re talking about tanking, at late game, when you’re defense capped as a tank, you will literally never see redoubt proc, because you will literally be crit immune, hence aegis providing a better alternative.

Fun fact, aegis functions how redoubt does in tbc.

I understand that but at least removing the restriction would make taking Redoubt feel a lot better considering Shield Specialization is still worth taking and you HAVE to take Redoubt to get it.

For example im pure prot right now. So i run DS, taunt and AS. So i spec in redoubt and what not. But its nice to have aegis now for those specd in holly for Conc

Just run divine storm, exorcist and hand of reckoning, and spec in the retribution tree as if you were dps. You tank using a 2h.

That’s not how these mechanics work.

They increase your block chance by a flat 30%, they don’t increase by 30% of the current chance. If you have 5% block normally, you have 35% block with Redoubt or Aegis; if they could stack, you would have 65% with both.
