Hello all, I’d like to start my pally tank build soon and I’ve been looking at the set bonuses and I’m wondering what’s the better option. It’s hard to beat no charges on Holy shield and it lasting for 10 seconds, yet reckoning procing every time you block is pretty huge for dps/threat as well.
What’s the preferred option?
I’d use the Shoulder Glyph for the ‘no charges’ Holy Shield. I know WoWhead says to use the one that allows you to auto Seal Twist (allows two seals to be active for 6 seconds). But “eh”.
I personally use the T2 Bracer and Belt from the Ret set for the ‘no consume Seal on Judgement’ bonus and the ‘no charges’ Holy Shield shoulder glyph. So I’d probably go with T2 Prot’s set bonuses.
Definitely farm out a full 6 set t1, it’s very useful in solo farms and aoe or dungeon builds. 6p t2 is nice if you have a slower weapon but loses some value as your weapon gets faster (which is what we typically want). Getting the full t2 set would be good to have since you do get damage reduction and you could rune the 6p t1 bonus to those shoulders and be a great multi target tank.
Imo you want both in your arsenal.
If you’re planning to tank kara/dungeons/zg/aq for a bit, go for the holy shield enchant. Once you’re a bit more geared, then you can opt for the threatier pieces
The Holy Shield enchant is so good in Kara. My Protadin basically has only badge gear + a few AH items + items from Kara and can tank it NP at this point, and infinite Holy Shield honestly just gets an insane amount of value. I definitely have some threat issues on a couple bosses because I’m still using a blue sword (only seen 1 clobberclub drop and it was yoinked by a Warrior who already had a dark edge) but I’ve cleared Kara 10 times on my Pally at this point so it’s really just a matter of people needing to not go ham right off the rip on boss fights.
Club is bad for paladin tanks. Go for a fast 1 hander weapon
Pray tell what fast 1-hand can I get from 5-man content that’s even remotely competitive with Clobberclub?
Like, low-key I feel like you need to see a screenshot of the state of Alliance-side PUGs. I was in a 40-man BWL that had 20 Paladins who wanted Lightbringer. That’s not happening. Lol.

The only remotely comparable item is the Obsidian Defender which is mostly just strictly worse and costs thousands and thousands of gold. LOLL
Link your paladin then. I will tell you what weapon upgrades to go for. Or just keep on farming the weapon that isn’t good for paladins.

Are you sure you’re not thinking about Lord Blackwood’s Blade, (not a rare, not stratholme, it’s from Scholomance) which I’m using, which is basically a blue, which is absolutely NOT in the same league as Clobberclub?
Your correct, i really only care about the speed so to me its amazing, so your not running a blue like you stated.
