All,
I’m returning after about an 8 year absence. I boosted a paladin to level 120, and have a warrior at 120. I’m debating which to main for the remainder of 8.3 and into Shadowlands. My time to play is much less now than it was 8 years ago so I’m wanting to choose one character and stick with it.
My question is which? I would like to do a bit of BGs, 5 mans, and casual raids. I don’t care about being the best in any but want to be useful and have fun. I really enjoy Fury Warrior and have fun healing with Holy.
I guess what I’m wondering is how is ret in PVP?
Has strengths and weaknesses but overall I’m pretty happy with it as it sits now.
Holy pally is top tier
Prot pally is bottom tier
Ret has jumped up quite high in terms of performance with ineffible truth corruptions.
Keep in mind this is for the tippity top of content. +22 keys and mythic raiding.
For anything else than that, all classes are absolutely fine.
Prot warrior is top tier in M+ and mid tier in raiding.
Fury/Arms are solid all around.
If you have any interest in healing, go paladin. Otherwise look at the play styles/abilities and chose what intrigues you more.
I really like healing as Holy, but prefer Fury over Ret. Fury feels a bit faster paced than Ret, but I suppose it’s possible I haven’t played Ret enough to judge for certain.
I haven’t tanked much so can’t decide if that’s a route I’d like to take. A big reason I enjoy Holy is the pressure of being the deciding factor in both PvP and PvE.
Ret feels better if you pile on ungodly amounts of haste, for what it’s worth. Even without that though I like ret more than fury for the survivability options.
Ret has traditionally scaled exponentially well towards the end of an expansion. Towards the start of one until you start getting some raid level gear it can be a bit of a slog until then.
With the level squish it’ll be interesting to see how that scaling plays out in Shadowlands.
Idk where you got ret being “high” considering they’re competing with WW at the bottom of the barrel for dps atm.
Prot is literally ranked A tier tank currently.
It sits just under Brm with DK
Current tanks that are bottom tier are DH and Druids.
This is for raids.
Wut? In what world is a prot pally more tanky than a vengeance or guardian?
For casual content (low mythic and casual PvP) I like Paladin better. We have better self sustain. It’s very difficult to die in dungeon and pvp.
In literally all of them. Literally every single instance. Ive out lived mythic geared dh and guardians in pugs h nya. Players that killed nzoth on mythic.
Ive also out threat them during those pugs and ripped aggro off them.
So based off of your own limited experience you’re making these claims.
Got it.
Let us know when you time a +13 key and maybe well take you seriously.
Well by world of logs and a handful of tanking sites that’s true too. Prot is powerful. And played right, almost unkillable. Upper mid rank tank (rank a if you follow tanking rankings)
Brew master stagger and survivability, mobility, takes it on mythic plus. One of two s rank tanks(best performing via the numbers)
and blood dk…well blood dk can hit unreal levels of versa with corruptions now, which really brought them up from 8.2(other rank s tank)
All are viable up to +15s -+20 ish though. After +22 things get sketchy though and youre maxing certain classes out
Prot pally is not bottom tier lol. Mid tier at the lowest
The other tanks could have been running an offensive set up while you were running defensive.
In a few more weeks I’m wondering if it’ll be possible to hit block cap with a couple ineffable truths to keep wings up permanently. 100% block on all attacks, magic included could make pally the most solid, since no other tank could approach that level of magic mitigation, at least I don’t think.
What are you basing this off of? And are you referring to raiding or M+? Because those are two different animals.
In raiding, including mythic raiding, any tank is fine. Some deal with certain types of damage better than others but all are totally viable. The only time rankings even matter is if you’re on the bleeding edge of WF and undergeared.
M+ is an entire different animal and where the pro’s /cons of tanks show. Compared to a raid, where you need to use defensives at specific times, there’s usually 1 or two things to taunt, and 3-5 healers who can babysit you and offer externals. Compare this to high M+ where you can have multiple mobs hitting you for equivalent damage to a raid boss while you need to use your full kit, maintain an interrupt rotation, and not die.
Everyone in here so far claiming prot pally is not bottom tier is doing content that is stupid easy. Heroic raiding can be done by monkeys after the first 2 weeks of release, and +17’s are a joke.
Go do some content with actual consequences and you’ll quickly understand how/why tank rankings are how the are.
Why is prot pally considered bottom tier for M+ this go around?
