Pally changes -explain

Can a good paladin explain the opposed changes today based upon the datamined changes?

I feel like they took all of our hybrid builds and just took them out back and put em down.

Holy DPS - Dead

Champion of the light DEAD for hybrids -5pts now

Lights vigil as a DPS machine for shockadin - DEAD

Holy power now is just for healing.

Prot legitimately looks alot more fun to play now though. So good job.

New ret capstone looks stupid. (Auto attack 3 times → swap seal = the entire spec)

Am I wrong or is this a good assessment?

They gutted hybrids to make each spec actually fun/useful/interesting.

I’m fine with losing shockadin to make ret and prot good. Shock was always emergent unintended gameplay. Let people try to do it anyway.

The previous rotation was swapping your seal every auto attack, soooo this is dolphinately better.

Also super cool burst potential to store up 3 command procs, swap righteousness, and then pray for a quadruple crit. Slot machine for sure but I’ll bet it’s satisfying when it works.

Shockadin is STILL in a good spot. We lost Consecrated Ground and a tiny bit of Int (~10–16 endgame) in order to shock and champion of the light. Separating full healing output from full DPS was a necessary fix to prevent massive nerfs down the line. People are just doomposting because the easy one-shots were adjusted from holy capstone, but PvP still has two legit burst builds available in reckbombs and double judge/command. We’re still super strong.

Ret is nerfed pretty hard

2h spec no longer increases holy damage like it was, that’s big.
Having to invest into previous 3pt nodes that are now 5 inhibits the addition of other talents.

Consecration mana efficiency moved to holy hurt Rets, because now casting conc as a ret will run you dry., and consc is what pads your dps meter, which is what players look at, which means your invited to a raid or not.

Soc is a poor talent for ret because the proc rate is worse than windfury.

Make this make sense to me.. Intellect talent is in prot tree, Parry is in Ret tree, Strength is in Holy tree. Don’t get me wrong, I like hopping into other spec trees to round out my character but why are the very basics all mixed up? Parry → prot / Int → holy / Strength → ret

So… you want to complain instead about the first 5 points being “wasted” when you dip into another tree? Would you rather those points give you something useful or just be absolute garbage points on your way to the deeper talents?

I’ll be real, I made 4 builds as a test; ret, holy, prot, shockadin. All of them have the right amount of points to hit what you need for the builds as well as flexibility as your gear improves.

So if these are the trees we are getting then i’m hyped because before it felt like I had to waste points just to get something that I actually wanted to get. People just going to keep doomin tho.

as a prot i dont want to parry I want to block is better for agro and mana procs I belive

Not to point out the obvious, but this is a video game where numbers can be pulled out of thin air by any means.

There’s no reason for any talents to ever be garbage except to (a) pull their “illusion of choice” garbage or (b) they are incapable of making any creative decisions.

The prot tree used to have imp devotion aura and redoubt on the first tier. Which of those is useful for ret?

Ok this is good to hear.

I like a class a that have a bit of build variety that actually works.

I also am a shockadin enjoyer so this is keeping me optimistic.

It’s crazy you guys got an improved Windfury weapon you can build up to and enh is still rocking a flat 20% chance to proc. Smfh over here. This talent really looks cool have fun retbros

Im so glad these Shockadin larpers are getting push back. Healers are worth far more than your pathetic shockadin larp meme. Holy was gutted by them during the beta. Thank god for these changes.

My worry is that I think keeping up righteousness to get 3 stacks and them swapping to Command will be significantly better DPS in PvE.

So the slot machine will not be relevant except in PvP.

This will make the spec a bit more boring. It also seems to encourage 1h + offhand with Spell damage to get stacks —> weapon swap 2h for hopefully big hit.

Again on paper it looks cool, but 1h will build stacks faster.

Yea, I agree with your take. I’m hyped for these changes. Fyi, I do play prot but I also feel that I get lots of choices in the additional points I have to spend. I still kinda think though that the Ret capstone seems odd but if it under performs I’m sure it’ll get adjusted. I think we are in a better state. just wish we still had Blessing of Sanctuary and maybe a “Hand of Freedom” instead of “Blessing of Freedom”

Or fast two handers, which there are plenty of people in Classic.

There were a few of those with spell power in them in beta as well.

Going to be cool, I think we’re just not seeing it all yet.

Caster dagger + seal of righteousness and offhand with spell damage/intel will probably do plenty of holy damage. It will also get 3 stacks really fast.

But we’ll see.

Maybe it will work out somewhat interesting.

I think pally is in a better place overall now.

Excited for launch.
