They excel at low gear points, and don’t scale nearly as well as the patch goes on.

In Mythic Nerub, they’re ranked #20th of 26…
In M+ they’re ranked … 5th?
Enh > Frost DK > Assassin > Survival > Havoc = Ret?
What metric are you using here? Because in completion rate, key completion, mythic raiding, raiderio rating, and M+ ranking they’re not even top 5 of any melee spec.

That’s 10+ keys, and 12+ keys.
Unless you are looking at highest possible keys … they were popular, not broken. And if you do look at highest possible keys, they aren’t really in the running for being a dps. Since at that point you played protection if you brought a paladin. But at that point you are also looking at squeezing out every possible advantage, even those that largely doesn’t matter.

Could you explain the logic there as to why you believe a 625item level Ret sucks but a 635item level Ret excels thanks to low gear scaling?

I don’t understand these posts. Ret is not a hands down meta pick, and it’s not dominating in any way. It’s performing well, sure. I could understand the gripe if we were leagues above everyone else as top dps for more than a season in a row…but that’s just not the case. I mean will y’all not be happy til we go back to being a bottom 3 dps?

It’s gonna be 2R/1M meta.
Melee is in a bad spot but Retribution has a bit more flexibility than the rest due to its kit.
Responses are correct tho. It doesn’t scale well. Flashy in low keys good for pugs, not as great in organised content

Yes, and I personally have always called for buffs to feral. The spec is repeatedly released in a “fine” state or worse. I can’t remember a time it was truly performing “well”. Feral does deserve love and I hope you all get some.

Yeah this is a big part of the perception from the community. Specs like ret will always look inflated when you’re in a low-lowish key with low-health targets that die quickly during wings. Balance is a great example. Balance does quite well in a coordinated pull with high health targets, but put the spec in a low key with a ret and balance looks awful. Just one example I’m sure I could think of more if it weren’t morning.
Spriest is about the same too where it shines later on, less hated on tho because they can offspec healer and give people PI (damage juice) so they get eternal love.
