Paladins and TBC

How good were pallies in TBC? I’m about to level one in prep for it. I mained a hunter back then and im kinda getting tired of this class.

we talkin all around? ret, holy, prot?

Good healers, although no where near Shaman.

More than Passable tanks and DPS, with some unique combat bonuses.

Don’t bother. Roll a Druid instead.

Powerful tank healers, durable in PvP (though Resto Druid is king in 2s), Prot was actually viable (and pretty in demand for Mount Hyjal trash which is 99% of the raid), and Ret was actually viable and pretty good - if you were a blood elf.

It’s waaaay more fun than the vanilla pally.

Pretty much, adding Crusader Strike completed the spec for the most part. It’s still pretty basic, but it now has things to actively hit and Consecration is baseline too, allowing them to have it without investing in Holy.

Ret and prot paladin are very very strong in raid. Ret because it brings improved judgement of the crusader, and prot Is the best AE tank in tbc. Holy is still good, but not quite classic WoW good. They got nerfed.

Soloing, not much changes, but tanking? It’s a whole world of a difference after classic.

Such fun tanks.

I dunno, better itemization and baseline Consecration for Ret (plus Crusader Strike for on demand damage) makes me think soloing is also much faster.

They also get avenger shield talent for prot, and mana recovery on getting healed is amazing because now mana starving is gone for prot.

Yeah, lack of taunt and threat output constrained by mana pool are the main issues why paladins don’t make great raid tanks in Classic.

And horrible prot (or any spec) gear itemization, but that affects some other classes as badly.

That gear problem really does hold a lot of builds back big time in classic. It’s a shame because there is so much that could have been done.

On the flipside, it’s kinda funky how some work with lower level gear that lasts way too long.

YES, I remember TBC vividly and I’ve made my Paladin just for that same purpose. You’re gonna love it! Prot rocks !

Really doesn’t bug me at all. Kinda cool actually. Just that they could have done a better job of providing sets or options for different classes that made them more effective in game.

Just don’t do what I did my first time. Crusader strike scaled really well with spell damage so I took all the spell damage gear from the quests. That was a mistake. Well, no need to worry about that cause CS was changed to scale from weapon damage only. Considering I leveled a blood elf after it was much smoother sailing the second time.

I love em. Main will be pve spacegoat prot pally.

Palis were dope in tbc. I leveled one after I got my mage to 70 in tbc and never went back to mage as main.

They ‘nerfed’ holy, the whole reason I leveled one, but at the same with gear being more optimized it didnt really change much, and were still some of the best healers. Prot became viable…maybe not as 40 man MT, but for anything else, and with decent gear a pretty amazing farming spec, and ret was more than just a joke finally
