Paladin Tank AQ Bonus NEEDS an Update! Suggestions inside

As of now, the AQ set bonus does nothing to help tank paladins keep threat. Having an instant cast heal, while great, will mainly result in over healing.

Suggested Changes:

  1. Find the easiest way to increase Holy Light threat generation for Tank Paladins. (eg. cook it in to Righteous Fury)
  2. Convert Holy Light overhealing to a damage shield.
  3. Holy Light overhealing converts to splash holy AoE damage

Please, please, please update this set. As is, it does nothing to help us compete on aggro and the effective healing will be extremely low value.

On Bishop Benedict’s name, I will thank you, by the Grace of the Naaru.

Healing done by holy light is effected by rightous fury fyi

Where are you seeing the loot table?

I’d appreciate proof of that claim, since it isn’t what the tooltip reads. Even if so, it isn’t enough. In raid, the effective healing that the bonus will give won’t be meaningful, so the threat generated will be next to nothing. For solo farming, its great, but for raid/dungeon content, it makes zero sense.

Holy heck that 4 set is cool, talk about a tool to prevent parry haste RNG, frenzy buffer and general near no cd save. That’s crazy as heck

Also jealous of having that in dungeons, very very cool set bonus

Healing generates aoe threat on all mobs in combat, holy light is in the holy tree

Theoretically, it should since RF did impact Blessing threat, which was the primary means for Vanilla Prot to generate threat - by spamming Greater BoKings on the largest class make-up in the raid.

((The bug was RF affected all Holy-school spells, including Healing ones.))

Source: Righteous Fury Mechanics == OP Paladin Threat (1k+ TPS)

Uncertain if it was fixed in SoD.

I’d prefer to not have a set bonus based around a bug. Also, there is still the issue of how much effective healing this will bring and with it not being off the GCD, pressing holy light will likely get in the way of a higher threat generating ability.

Not really a “Bug”

It being off the GCD does suck though

If a spell has an additional effect, not described in the tooltip, I would call that a “bug”

Do we need all spells to say “Causes threat” now? Do we need every DPS ability to now say “Causes threat”? What a weird take

You must be confused. The bug that was mentioned before you decided to jump in was that Righteous Fury effected holy spells, including heals, when the tool tip says its holy damage only. Maybe that can help you be less confused, because it sounds like you are.

Do Prot Paladins need a set bonus that helps them keep threat?

A quick glance shows that none of the set bonuses from T1 and T2 prot provided any additional threat either, and yet Prot Paladins are easily one of the strongest threat generating classes in SoD.

I’m a little confused on why Prot Paladins would need a set bonus that gives additional threat now, when they’ve been fine without it for all of Phase 4 and 5.

The original version of Righteous Fury says Holy Attacks.

The SoD version of Righteous Fury reads:

Increases the threat generated by your Holy spells by 80% and gives you mana when healed by other friendly targets’ spells equal to 25% of the amount healed. Additionally, damage which takes you below 35% health is reduced by 20%. Lasts until cancelled.

emphasis mine. Healing threat is a BIG thing in Classic WoW/SoD. So yes, Holy Light is definitely effected by Righteous Fury.

not a bug, working as intended. set bonus is OP for threat generation as well as survivability.

T1 increased the damage Holy Shield does which is a big threat generator. T2 gave us an extra swing every block which means more exorcism and SoR holy damage, which increases threat.

Indeed, as DPS damage scales up, the need for threat generation to scale also exists. If we go a tier without extra threat, we will fall behind.

Thank you for clearing that up with Righteous Fury, but there is still no likely scenario that I am using a GCD on a heal that will likely be overhealing because I am in a raid group with healers in it. I guess every group that actually trusts their healers is SoL then.

I’m pretty sure this isn’t suppose to be for threat, but for a “defensive cooldown”. It doesn’t appear to have a duration so you could just ShOR and sit on the instant-cast Holy Light for if things go south.

Or its intended use is more for off-healing.

Holy ‘attacks’. And from what I heard, there’s a reason Holy doesn’t have a resistance…apparently people could resist being healed in Alpha/Beta in OG WoW.

((I’m guessing when they hit Druid/Shaman they realized they couldn’t just remove Nature resist and opted to put in the ‘cannot be resisted’ flag, but never went back to change paladin’s heals or re-add Holy resistance.))

What this all says is that Heals are likely considered an ‘attack’ but not a hostile attack.

…ah, code reuse, sometimes it’s a smart play. Most times it leads to headaches.

Just add to the 4p that after you use shield of righteousness it also grants you like 150 block value for 12 seconds.

Problem solved.

You would be wrong.

That’s called Blizzard being bad at making tooltips.

And still Paladin is miles a head on agro compere to othere tank classes.
In full bis phase 6 gear the sims shows paladin as nr2 on single target threat
And nr1 on aoe

So please buff Warrior and warlock over all threat
Buff Rogue Aoe Threat
