I’m down to two classes for hardcore. What do you think and why?
Droods rule
Druid makes a lot of sense for HC given their ability to really never die, barring a major boo-boo, while outdoors after level 20something.
I’d imagine much of the leveling will be accomplished by grinding mobs. Paladin is pretty rotten at this regardless of the spec.
I love both classes and have raided Classic with both. Druid just seems ideal for hardcore gameplay.
Paladins in general are going to build a reputation for being backstabbers and there’s alot more pressure to properly use your utility before you nope away. As a druid you have enough escape tools where you can stay in the fray throw out some roots and still have enough time to escape yourself.
Paladin, because they steal pink from shamans.
Depends on what you want to do at 60. Looking at paladins, they are one of the safer classes to level, however they are probably the slowest leveling class, at 60 they really have one role, healing, though with proper gear and a competent group they can tank in dungeons with added risk, and make an amazing off tank in ZG.
For Druids, they are also a relatively safe class to play and much more fun to level, at 60 however in dungeons they can easily run any role, though in raids they tend to more limited either being a bear tank or a resto druid. Also while druids definitely have more flexibility at 60, due to limitations with how hots work in Classic, you wont typically bring as many healing druids in a raid, but it also means its usually one of the easiest classes to gear.
overall they are both excellent to level on, both bring a lot of power in terms of utility and capability in leveling…
IMO just play the one that you want. Don’t worry about “end game” because if you can make it to end game you will likely get a spot in raid since the biggest raid boss in HC is going to be the roster = full boss.
Whatever you pick, just play it well and understand the capability of the class in each type of content you do.
End game is not a factor in my HC calculations. Leveling experience is paramount so…. 4th time around Classic with a Druid I guess.
Make one of each. Stick one into a rested xp state. Enjoy.
I plan on making 4-5 “Mains” and doing this with 3-4 of them, then leveling 1.
Paladin if you intend to raid. Druid if you don’t.
Druid is fun when leveling, but their end game sucks. Paladin’s leveling is boring as hell, but every raid wants more paladins.
At the start, guilds won’t be picky because they want to fill the rolsters. But when there are more and more 60s, they will remove all druids except one (for motw and ff) for progression. And if you want to stick with your character in the shadow realm (aka whiteman cluster), good luck with finding a raid spot as druid.
They both start really slow, but druid get’s a lot faster at 20. Paladin is probably an overall safer pick for surviving.
I have no idea what you mean by this.
Only needing one Druid for raid isn’t a huge issue because they are the least played class in Classic Era
Paladins and Shamans have higher numbers than Druid, even though Druid is available on both factions.
And let’s be real … who is really going to be raiding HC and actually surviving ? Only the most hardcore of hardcore.
Most people are going to get as far as they can go, die, then xfer to Classic Era.
They’re melee and they have some of the best lifesaving utility in the game. There’s going to be times where a group messes a pull in something like stratholme, they expect the paladin to throw a bop on the healer or something of the likes, maybe just an aoe stun, where instead the paladin abandons the group and runs away. Or maybe they’ll just bubble after a tank dies instead of shield swapping like any half decent warrior naturally does.
This is one of the weirdest things I’ve read. Shield swapping does what exactly for a paladin in classic. He has no taunt. And your assumption that all paladins will abandon the group at the first hint of trouble is ugh… Also since bubble hearthing is disabled in HC it will only delay their death if they try that instead of working with the group.
I wouldn’t really expect rets to be that good tbh, they’re the handicap kings of classic, but if you’re not using righteous fury as dps paladin you’re disservicing your group in hardcore in the event of a tank death.
I don’t see how I spoke for “all” I’m simply giving an example that says people are going to have high expectations of certain classes to save from a catastrophic wipe in the case of a singular death and if you’re not a competent player then paladin is probably the worst choice you could be making, people expect you to play your class properly and if you aren’t willing to you may as well play a class with less responsibility.
Plenty of people are going to be hardstuck 5 man paladins notorious for doing nothing but saving themself when a pull is botched.
I just completed Scarlet Monastery Library the other day with three paladins and a hunter (along with my mage), and they did well. None of them cut and run. We weren’t playing hardcore, but it went pretty well. Most paladin players aren’t chickens.
They are the least played class not because they have the least fun to play but because they struggle to find raid groups that need them, and underpeforming is definitely not fun to see.
If the point is just to level up to 60 and no raiding at all then there is no point in asking because whatever classes are good in leveling and the question about classes you find them fun is impossible to answer because the players have to figure themselves. There is no correct answere for that question.
unless they’re right next to the instance entrance, running away ain’t gonna do a paladin no good
rogues are much more likely to be seen as traitors, with their sprint and vanish.
You can still hearth, having 10 seconds to create a aggro free gap is more than enough in a lot of the dungeons. Rogues don’t really have much they can do to save a group, if a tank dies and you didn’t do all your class could to save anyone else (or even the tank) you shouldn’t be playing that class in group content.
