I know this has been talked about but I looked through all the other class trees in the game and by far the Paladin class tree lacks so much flavor, there are too many increased by% nodes that are only slight 2-4% increases that feel really boring. So many classes have nodes that empower abilities that are apart of the baseline kit.
But we have:
Golden Path-
Seal of Mercy-
Judgment of Light
Strength and Conviction
Touch of Light
Incandescence
Faith Armor
Light forged Blessing
Punishment
Turn Evil
Are all nodes that 99% of the time are not taken.
Consecration has been a core ability for Paladins but for some reason has been the most useless (besides prot) and yet we have 3 dedicated nodes to empower it. Golden Path heals for 4k. We have 7MiL HP pools in TWW and its the same on live. Nodes like this should see a DRASTIC buff or be removed altogether .
Class Tree Symmetry: Seal of Mercy and Unbound Freedom are both not reflected on the class tree, either Seal of Mercy should be between Golden path and Sac or Unbound freedom should be next to touch of light. It makes no sense and kind of shows how rushed and not thought out the class tree is.
-We need more flavor nodes examples:
-Blessing of Freedom is now undispellable
-Blinding Light takes x amount more damage to break
-Taking damage has x% chance to make your aura 200% strogner for x seconds.
-Hammer of Justice is now a Physical stun but reduces the duration to 4s (undispellable)
-Taking a critical strike reduces the CD of BOP by .5 sec.
-Your HP has a chance to reset your judgment and allow it to heal or do bonus damage.
-Your steed leaves behind a Holy consecration that slows enemies by x%.
-Your HP has a chance to make your next Flash of light Instant and heal for x more.
-Your HP has a chance to Proc Divine Protection or SoV at 70% effectivness
Nothing OP and some thing that were even in the rework notes that never made it.
People complain that we complain alot but no other class is suffereing from their class tree as a Paladin does. really hope blizz considers looking into adding more class flavor nodes instead of just inflating it with nodes just to be there.
Yeah the class tree does need to be redone. Problem is they butchered what paladins are all these years, what are they gonna add to renew paladin flavor that works for all 3 specs
Taking X% of your hp as damage makes your devo aura 300% stronger for x seconds or
Sanctified plates has to buff hp straight up. Ret is BACK to being one the lowest hp specs amongst melees if not the lowest when they cited this exactly as one of the reasons ret dies the most.
Divine purpose needs to be dead center and unskippable. Remove the %buff and make it either a raw chance or every x spenders gives you divine purpose.
Remove the tax points with seal names or make them old seals lite: seal of truth makes your attacka deal x% extra as a dot competing with seal of light makes attacks heal you for x%.
Many specs have clear pve vs pvp nodes. Easier to balance.
Things like turn evik should be baseline or extend their usefulness via talents like “turn evil is now expel evil. Expell evil no longer fears demons undead and aberrations, now instantly kills them. Expel evil cd is 1min”
Divine protection can now be used on allies and has aditional effects per spec. Nothing gamebreaking but needs a little flavor.
I am sure wow devs can come up with way better ideas than me but they need to have flavor and purpose. And NO damage gains, pure utility for different game modes or niches.
Agreed completely is just so much bloat to the tree that makes no sense. I want to be able to use DP it should be easily accessible to the point its always taken, the proc chance is low enough that it wouldnt make us OP but add a little surviability becuase now I can use the proc on a heal or a dps and not have to worry that im wasting HP on either or.
Many specs have some Crazy OP ones for example DKS they have a crap ton of nodes to buff AMS and increase healign taken by 30%
My vote would be to add Crusader aura into the other aura talent and put Divine Purpose in its place in the top of the tree. DP’s current space at the bottom can easily be left blank and having DP at the top would make it easy to pick up.
I find paladins niche to be the utility it brings, I think the class tree should emphasize that.
Each spec focuses on heals, and, and survivability, the class tree should offer things that amplify and play with that. If they want to keep seasons, that really seems like a class tree thing, not a holy thing.
More options to change modify or add defensive for ourselves and others, more ways to modify or and and healing, and some extra random options, like leap vs pony choices or stuff like that.
I am about 90% certain that the opposite is going to happen. Blizzard mentioned in an interview rather recently that they think defenses and off healing (to a lesser extent) is too high across the board. Hence why we have been seeing nerfs to those things.
But they also mentioned they will revisit defensives in a later season. With the intent of drastically reduce non-tank survivability.
Going to see if i can find the interview in question.
Yes yes they say that and at the same time they give shamans raw dr, magic dr and dr when healed by totem, they also buffed healing surge in thmselves. Astral shift and wolf dr. Spirit link dr.
True,l but paladin utility seems to be what sets us apart from other classes and I enjoy that, what else would you think the class tree should do? From a generalized perspective
I know nothing about PvP so not sure about any of your suggestions, but the class tree does need some work.
Remove Dusk and Dawn from the game entirely. It has no noticeable impact on the game whatsoever, it’s a set it and forget it capstone that you only notice making a difference on raidbots when you sim for high numbers.
Add Aura Mastery and Blessing of Spellwarding to the class tree for all specs. It sucks that Ret has no important utility for raids and will always lose out a spot to the other specs.
Add the 3 yard auto attack range to class tree. If Prot needs to stay in consecration, if holy needs to hard cast and if ret is going to be balanced this low all specs could use it.
Decide whether paladins should be offhealing at all. So many talents do pitiful amounts of off healing that don’t help at all in raids or dungeons. Why do we have them?
Bring back greater blessing of kings, swap Dusk and Dawn for this.
The class tree should be about blessings, utility and seals.
We don’t need this. We should be moving away from having our 80% of our abilities being ranged (ret)
I beleive our off healing should be our utility.
While i feel we should get this back, it would probrobly come back as sonething different then our past versions.
I am supportive of aura mastery, though spellwarding would cause raids to stack pallies to avoid mechanics. I do agree it sucks ret don’t have utility for raids.
So I don’t seriously arena so, mainly rando bg…
I think paladin offhealing should be bursty. Like the cata iteration of WoG which had a cd but could hit pretty hard on low Hp targets. A CD based heal on WoG. Feels like it’s super hard to balance sustainable healing on a defensive oriented melee DPS class otherwise.
Purely examples, just whay came to my head whike posting. I can agree the examples are not the best for PVE but ill tell you that they are far better than Golden Path seal of Mercy ect. Like i said more flavor oriented.
I’m sorry I wasn’t trying to belittle your suggestions, just explaining why I thought they might have been more pvp orientated, in reply to that other person.
