Paladin animations

Hello,

Sorry for opening another post about this, but as many have pointed out, Divine Storm’s particle effect is much different from what it was in original WotLK.

It looks like in this old PvP video that Judgement is also lacking particles when it hits. The one we currently have in Classic appears to slam into the target’s head at an angle, whereas in the original version it hit directly downward and the animation is a bit shorter than usual. The Classic team seems to completely overlook these small details, among other things. I’m disappointed–I was really looking forward to seeing these spell effects in their old glory again.

Unfortunately this is probably the result of them using the current game engine for running wrath rather than the old game engine. Flare for instance functions completely differently than it did in original tbc/wrath. There are videos on youtube of rogues dueling hunters where the second you step out of flare, the debuff disappears. Currently that is not true though, you can step into a flare then run outside and maintain the debuff for 5-10 seconds. Cloak is also broken along with vanish, but thats the result of current Activision/Blizzard just not caring and I doubt that will change anytime soon. Just gotta live with it

This is what I mean by they seriously miss these tiny yet greatly significant details about how the game played back then. You have people like me or you left with a bad experience and a reaffirmed idea that the developer team just sucks at their job.

I’m not convinced that the current game engine cannot support old particle effects, because since the beginning, they have had original spell animations that were correct. Also, if you’ve ever played around with changing spell IDs in a private server addon, getting the correct animation for a spell would be as simple as changing a number value.

I noticed early on playing my Death Knight too that Death and Decay didn’t make a cool sound when you placed it on the ground, which was one of my favorite parts about the spell. Again, it would be as simple as putting in the original sound file. What’s funny is you can manually add the sound file to play through a weakaura. So I guess I’m the developer now.

Would you be able to link me a video of what you are talking about? I’m a big PvPer so I would be more than willing to hear you out further on that.

I’ve been playing Ret in both Classic and Retail. It’s not the same animation. The Retail animation is like the Wrath animation on steroids. I can actually see jagged angles in the Classic animation.

It’s one of those situations where the people who originally made tbc/wrath were much more involved in fixing stuff and making the player base happy - mainly due to the fact it was new and obviously a lot of the WoW dev team back then actually PLAYED WoW. Currently though I doubt even a small percentage of the team they hire actually play the game let alone like it. On top of that you have their higher ups making them focus on stuff like diablo immortal rather than stuff like a re-release of an expansion for an MMO.

set graphic settings to “old graphics” preset 3 should be back to that style then

you are right about that. sad but true
