I’ve always been a little confused with the very very weird technology that seems to be in the game. We can time travel, use range magic, have guns, space travel, and a plethora of other weird genre-mixed stuff…
Yet we still use outhouses, and have wells and viaducts as our water supplies.
I am not aware of a single flush bathroom fixture or running faucet anywhere in the game.
What other blatant continuity errors have you noticed?
None, it’s a made up world and not a carbon copy of our reality. Being said I always just accepted it as what it is.
Folks complained that there were no ducks…ducks cost time and money to add to the fake world, so I never thought it was odd. Guessing it’s just a ‘me thinks’ scenario.
Oh boy there’s a few good ones.
1: the fact that for the longest time undead couldn’t really be hunters but humans could.
2: the fact that the light “protects its champions” but somehow doesn’t revive undead priests. instead chooses to scorn them and/or burn them purely for using it.
3: the fact that the belodar seems to be crystallized light or infused with light magic. Yet no one has had smarts enough to make light magic infused projectiles to pop the void users with. Just like when Crowley had the idea to turn an angel blade into bullets in Supernatural.
4: we popped that magic artifact of xal’atath’s and could magic one of our well known mages back up, but we can’t magic Dalaran back up? like bruh.
5: We can apparently time travel but didn’t travel back to stop Neltharian from becoming Death Wing.
6: At one point Malygos took all the magic from the world yet somehow we were able to throw magic at him and so on. I know this one is for gameplay reasons, but lore wise is a moment of yikes.
7: the existence of the shadowlands expac
8: the machine that keeps producing long forgotten tribes of trolls from nowhere that aren’t the Darkspear.
9: the fact that we have actual cars, airplanes, zeppelins and similar thanks to goblins and gnomes, but we still have to walk or run everywhere or choose to ride animals even when time is of the essence.
I always headcanon most of these as thinking they are actually very rare in game, but appear commonplace when we play. Like, there are probably very few mages in the game world, but when we play everyone is hurling some kind of magical artifact around or shooting ice bolts. Likewise, the number of mages that can portal everywhere are probably slim, everyone doesn’t have a rocket they can hop on, etc.
I reason some of these things away with a mix of different areas being isolated not having the knowledge and our constant state war making it that knowledge has not been able to spread. Then you have a lot of the worlds innovation put into making weapons, bigger and better weapons, instead improved the day to day lives of people.
There is an outhouse in Searing gorge with a dwarf stuck in and there is another Dwarf guarding the outhouse in Badlands. The assumption is they don’t flush , but admittedly I have never been allowed inside.
Dornagal has jacuzzi’s and the water must be piped in some how.
Don’t wish this expansion on yourselves or we will all be grinding plumbing supplies.
Um excuse me, oxymoronic? What the heck is that supposed to mean? An oxymoron is a word that uses two contradictory ideas (military intelligence is a famous one).
This is a trope actually. And it’s realistic, because it’s not logical that two worlds with sapient life would develop their technology on the exact same lines at the exact same rates.
I mean , you could imagine a urinal in the back room of the bar in Blackrock Depths , which looks exactly like a bathroom with the utensils missing, but i am warning yah , you will be getting excited over the " epic shower drain " drop.
