Overwolf Client and Addon Management - PLEASE Don't Support This!

I didn’t sign in for 3+ years, so I have like 4k rep.

who said anything about charging for it. all Blizzard would have to do is create a space where addon users could issue the existing addons/ updates.

I make pet battle posts, which get tons of upvotes. Lol. I have a few posts at 300+ points.

No, blizzard would have to pay someone to develop it, why would they do that when people are already doing it, at no charge to Blizzard.

Well. the post has spun out of controll

I honestly don’t know why Blizzard hasn’t done this already, why they leave add-ons which are important to the game in the hand of predatory 3rd party players.

I’ve never paid for an addon :man_shrugging:

Get all these shutdown too then since they are getting monetary compensation in a go around way

All the big addon heads have a way to get monetary compensation from users

Why ? Those are not against the ToS. No one says you cannot have a donation site up for people to donate if they want.

That’s not what Overwolf is doing, why are you defending this dude ?

Except those aren’t mandatory.

Ads on Overwolf will be mandatory.

On top of this, OW is trying to profit off things THEY DIDN’T CREATE

That’s incorrect. They addressed this a while ago with the new Curseforge app they’re creating and specifically said they don’t want to make it obtrusive and will have a paid option to get rid of ads.

I need proof of this.

So while I do think it’s ridiculous that they’re trying to block other apps from managing add-ons, your post is full of drama, hyperbole and incorrect information. It’s also stupidly long for no reason.

It’s still monetary compensation

“Pay up, or pay up”. Nice options.

Have you ever been forced to watch an advert while getting an addon?

If the answer is no, then you are correct.

If the answer is yes, than you have paid via watching the add.

Neither of this matters because overwolf intends to make you watch an ad every single time you want an addon, update an addon, leave it open in the background so it auto updates them. See the issue.

Exactly. The add’s, while annoying, don’t bother me as much as long as the developers get a cut.

What bothers me is my privacy and their predatory practices.

Yes, but not required to download or get the add-on or use the add-on. In fact, it’s not monetary compensation for the add-on at all.

It’s not even compensation.

It’s a donation.

I love people that are all like “I’m not defending this BUT…” and then go one to find 100 ways this is alright.

This - the ad revenue to developers isnt the issue tbh, the malware and and being forced to use overwolf for wow addons is.

Yes, the OG curse client

My bank account didn’t change so I didn’t pay anything

I love the people who think because I said TLDR; Just install addons manually that I’m defending them.

I think it’s a terrible practice, but we DO have a free alternative. To manually update them.

I still think we need to take action to stop this though. Hence telling people to email WOWUI@Blizzard.com.

Uh… Dude. Your time and your CPU cycles results in money being exchanged.

You paid with your time, your bandwith, your pc usage - you paid, just not with money.
