Overwolf Client and Addon Management - PLEASE Don't Support This!

Roxfa - Have fun manually install 50+ addons

Thanks to the damn prepatch & Blizzard troubleshooting, I basically had to do this, multiple times in one day, anyways, even pre overwolf launch. Then going one only actually updated 9.01 addon back at a time to troubleshoot. Of course to add insult to injury the bug was WoW’s, not an addon.

ok.

*download the compressed (zipped folder

  • unzip the folder

  • open the unzipped folder

  • Minimize the resulting file

  • Right click on WoW icon

  • Click on open file location option

  • double click(open) Retail

  • double click(open) Interface

  • double click(open) add-ons

  • Restore the minimized File that resulted from opening the unzipped folder

  • Drag the folders in this file, one at a time, and drop them into the add-ons folder. as this is done, your computer will tell you a file by this name already exists, and do you want to trade. Say yes to all.

  • Close any open files
This will update (prettysurecould beprettier) an Add-on.

If there’s one thing i’ve learned about GD, it’s overflowing with the lowest common denominator.

Even if your opening statement adequately lays out your thoughts/concerns, it wont be read and most posters will talk out of their backsides even with their replies make absolutely zero sense in consideration of the context.

This is the way of GD.

Not sure that makes much sense when addons are developed on github and posted to other place like wowinterface and wowace, both of which could be used as repositories for the client. Maybe I’m missing a step but I think that’s very possible. What Overwolf is saying is that they will break the ability to scrape curseforge. Other addon clients could scrape those other sites. Someone correct me if I’m wrong.

I also think you mean server capacity and not bandwidth…?

The problem with that is not every addon is available or even up to date on other repositories.

Proof that anyone can learn one thing.
Anyone at all.
I have a Minion to take care of my add-ons. it is mostly up to date. and free.

nope… bandwidth. storage capacity realistically is cheap for the most part… I’m talking about the number of concurrent connections and the amount of data being downloaded…

Yes there are other sites, but from my experience those other sites aren’t updated as often (or weren’t) by authors. I just checked wowinterface and they don’t host quite a few addons that I find extremely useful. It isn’t that they couldn’t but they currently don’t.

This is the perfect time for people to practice playing without addons or the least amount of addons possible

I’m currently running DBM, Raider IO and Details

With all due respect, I heavily disagree.

This game is unplayable without any addons.

No thanks I like my 72 addons.

Lol you guys are crazy but I respect it

I play all day every day with just a handful of addons

and not to be mean… but there is more to this game than running dungeons and raiding. There are other aspects to it, and there are addons for it.

and in my opinion the base UI is horibad and I use addons to make that bearable.

Yeah I like to do a little of everything, except for PVP - it has been terrible in BFA

What do you use for UI?

I don’t use any part of the default UI.

Primarily ElvUI… but there are other things that help with the ship missions so I don’t have to ‘think’ about them… simply click and send the NPC’s do their thing. It is a part of the game I hate, but necessary for the rewards… (azerite etc)

But I have fallen down the rabbit hole with pet collecting and battles. I have like 5 for just that. Because again the base UI lacks all kinds of amazing features that I get out of the addons.

I also have healing toons, so addons for that…

The list goes on… lol

Almost all of my guild mates use ElvUI

Is it that good?

Maybe I’ll try it out

It is very clean, and I can make my UI as minimalistic as I want… I can also put stuff where I want so I get the best use out of it. But if you haven’t used it… just beware it changes absolutely everything.

Couldn’t hurt to try it

Worst case scenario I don’t dig it and uninstall

Thanks!

I’ve tried ElvUI a couple of times but I don’t really like it. I prefer to create my own with various addons.
