On September 9 2020, the U.S. 9th circuit court of Appeals ruled that web scraping public sites does not violate the CFAA (Computer Fraud and Abuse Act). This is a really important decision. The court not only legalized this practice, but also prohibited competitors from removing information from your site automatically if the site is public. The court confirmed the clear logic that the entry of the web scraper bot is not legally different from the entry of the browser. In both cases, the “user” requests open data — and does something with it on their side.
Yes posting absolutely does plenty. Making more people aware of what’s happening will build public pressure for Blizzard to take action quickly.
Seems funny to me how there are some people in this thread who seem more upset by OP’s post than by what this atrocious malware developer is attempting.
So as long as updaters scrape the web pages instead of using CurseForge’s private API, they should be home free. Interesting.
It’s a public API.
So I guess I stop using addons, since it’s not good enough to continue to manually install and update as I’ve always done…?
Oh, I had no idea
If it was private they couldn’t use it without explicit permission.
Or so someone mentioned in another thread lol, i haven’t used their api myself.

Nope, mini map is ugly as sin. I love my default round mini map.
You know what, I was just looking at something for the minimap because I thought something like this
would go well with that UI
The trick would be getting those files from the artist since that was posted in 2009 and I haven’t seen it anywhere
That’s cool and all, but it reminds me of Linux desktops from 2001 (Enlightenment DR16 themes).
I had it from something as well (new keyboard or something). Uninstalled almost immediately.
Some people simply have never released this sadly, hell some even defend capitalism
I’d guess that Blizzard would never host add-ons themselves, but it would be helpful if they supported someone reputable that would.
God I miss the days when everyone wasn’t always trying to install some data scraping software to sniff around my computer. It’s making me want to be Ted Kaczynski (minus the bombs).
NGL this is a very sad time for me. I love the ease of using the Twitch Client. This really is hurting me right in the feels. Overwolf is looking like a total scum company which we all knew that were and taking it to another level now
I honestly I have no intention on using them and really hope Blizz can drop something on them to allow other clients to be used. Im going to miss Twitch and I repeat this is a really crappy coming to terms with addons
CurseBreaker and wowupio are not competitors, they are not making a separate product. They are taking data from curseforge without permission.
Do it Daddy!
Oh well will just have to do a manual install. Not hard at all.
Yeah Blizzard should just annihilate these Overwolf idiots if they’re breaking some sort of contract law.
