As of today, twitch app can no longer update my addons. I’m not super eager to get Overwolf. Is it really that bad? What are good alternatives? I’m kinda lost now.

You can manually download the files, unzip, and drag/drop into your Interface/Addons folder!

What a dumb move. it’s so stupid for them to just go and leave twitch like that. I don’t want to move all my stuff over either. really sick of all this.

All my stuff automatically transferred when I got overwolf.
I’m literally confused as to how it’s any different than twitch was. There’s no real reason to avoid it

Malware. overwolf is known for adding malware onto people’s PC. Wowup doesn’t as far as I know.

I’ve been using Cursebreaker. If you don’t mind the command line aspect, it’s really fast and easy if you can learn to type the words “install” and “update.”
I worry about some of the other apps being suggested because the flag a warning when you install them, but most likely, it’s just because they didn’t want to pay for a certification. But they could also have anything built in, now or in the future.

The Overwolf app is no different than how Twitch was, but it’s actually better and much less buggy. I haven’t had a single issue with it. If you don’t want to use it for whatever odd/misinformed reason then you can update manually or use something like wowup.io

WoWUP is so easy. I put it off for awhile thinking it would be crap
But its an easy install. Auto transfers addons. Easy one click update addon button
Not plagued with crud you dont need. Lightweight.
Highly rec it. Just after you dl make sure to rescan folder to get all the addons

Already using wowup, its perfection.
I’m using Singularity (singularitymods) and so far I really like it. It looks alot like twitch mods and has a nice dark mode you can enable from the settings. So far so good. I have been using it for almost 2 weeks.
Why?
Nothing wrong with the overwolf/curseforge software. It seems to be pretty much the same as the mod section of the twitch app.
What’s really tickled me about all this is a while back it was the curse program that handled addons. Then they combined it with Twitch app and people complained at the time. Now they’re going back to the OG setup and people are complaining again. People just don’t like change I think.
I’ve tried to follow the move from Twitch and why they wanted to get rid of curseforge or what Overwolf’s expectations are.
Is Overwolf trying to get developers of addons to ONLY use them and not allow for any other way to get addons (such as WoWup or wowinterface…etc)? I’m not saying they are or aren’t I’m just curios if I missed something.
I don’t think so. I’ve been using it, and it works fine. My skin hasn’t been covered in boils, and I still have all my fingers and toes. Plus, it’s been updating addons just fine. It doesn’t pop up any nutty/annoying messages or in any way interfere with anything else I do.
My understanding is that people have a problem with Overwolf because of some things they did in the past, things I think they have addressed maybe? I think their concerns are quite valid; it’s just that I don’t really have the same concerns personally.
I switched to WoWup from twitch and I think it’s actually better
I used Overwolf till i figured out that i was always running in the background which is not only a waste of CPU resources but is also super creepy. When i deleted it the uninstall failed. I hadn’t seen an uninstall fail in over a decade. Had to download yet another program to get rid of Overwolf.
I’d rather download all my addons manually than use Overwolf again.
