Overwhelming Amount of Promos

I don’t like this, if we could not do this, or offer these through the store without having to purchase a product we don’t like that’d be cool.

More here.

Like it’s one thing to have WoW pets connected to buying a plushie or something small, but a hefty $200-$150 tech item is a bit much. Especially if you, say, want to try the SteelSeries headset but want the pet then you’re SOL.

So some alternatives to this promo would be really welcome. I’m cool with a good-ol’-fashon cash grab, maybe we call it Lil’ Flameo for $30 on the Store?

Yeah, I agree. I don’t mind the old plushies that had in game variants attached to them as they were in that 30-40 range I think.

But I have absolutely zero need for a new gaming headset, so no matter how much I might want the items attached to it, I’m not going to throw out that kind of money only for an in game item. Having a store variant, even if it’s only after a set amount of time in case they want to have exclusivity initially, would work for me.

Yeah I think this is the crux of my issue. Like it’s one thing to have a promo for like a stuffed animal, TCG, or the speculated gummy-worm promo coming soon, but an entirely other thing to connect in game rewards to like these larger purchases of items that we all already have and likely enjoy.

I’m biased, but why have this promo for what is essentially overpriced C-to-B tier gaming products when you could connect in-game items to like a collection of WoW lore books, a new WoW hoodie they’ve made, or like a Xalatath art book? Something less expensive and more inclusive for consumers. This isn’t to say that absolutely everyone needs to have a $80 escape keycap… but… not everyone needs an $80… idk, you get my point.

Why spend $160 on a gaming mouse when I can invest that in the stock market at a 9% interest rate… over 20 years… (crunches numbers)… and get about $900 for WoW’s 40th-anniversary mini-fridge collection with the new in-game “FRIDGINATOR” mount and “Lil-Chilly-in-here” Vaultbot-reskin battle-pet??

It’s the large price point and the clearly weaponized FOMO towards some of the most committed WoW players that bugs me the most. Bit of speculation, but if Blizzard released an announcement this week saying that those in-game items will be returning to the store after the SteelSeries event I don’t actually think it would cause that much of a decrease in sales to SteelSeries. I think there’s a healthy scenario where in-store items can be added to promotional events to incentivize people to buy things without the whole FOMO part being a component.

And by the way, I’m not a marketing guru or anything, but having these in-game rewards help promote tech items is a bad thing at a foundational level anyways. This is because if I buy, say, the $150 mouse just for the pet - well now I have to try and resell this mouse to gain back some of what I lost. I think it’s a bad look for SteelSeries to have a non-zero amount of their items flood secondary markets like Ebay, pawn shops, or within gamer networks. Want to try the new SteelSeries collection? Why buy it from the source when you can buy it from 200+ resellers on Ebay racing to get rid of the things - all because (my speculative point here) they solely bought it for in-game reward reasons. Trying to target whales for items like this just doesn’t work in my opinion - whereas it does work for gummy worms or a $40 WoW plushie.

Being a top (checks leaderboards) 700 World pet collector, I mostly care about the mouse but the $160 price tag is way too high and feels like I’m being preyed on. I need some sort of justice so I’ve made a game you can play below:

Hey this is really cringe and the leaders making these decisions should be replaced with people who will just focus on making a better game that can recover sub numbers.

It has been over a year since I made my post & the community bemoaned the Steelseries promo and later Razer promo. Since, we have found ourselves in the most MTX, most whale-milking period in WoW history. Don’t ask for our feedback if you won’t make changes.

You don’t need gimmicks like this if you have good content. In this instance, the Blizzard store is packed full of filler like grey T shirts with “The War Within” logo on them all for the low-low price of $30. Shirts not your thing? Try some generic hat, a generic beanie, or for the ladies - the same stuff just as a crop top or cut off.

Among the store-slop there are good items - plushies and some creative shirts (mostly in Overwatch and Hearthstone, albeit) but I’d take an educated guess that this pet was added to try to get more ROI off the store because of poor sales numbers and as an experiement to see if WoW whales can boost store numbers to try and milk out better sales results. This is incredibly lazy and offensive as someone who has gone to great lengths to collect pets in WoW.

If you make good store items I will gobble it up, mark it at $150, whatever profit margin you need I’m here for it. I want like awesome cosplay stuff, I want to mount a realistic sized Sylvanas bow or Rank 14 Warlord Greatsword, I want a service that will make a character mold of my in game character, I want like a crazy headband with horns or other stuff I can clip onto my headphones or whatever - like let’s just think out of the box and make it happen. Right now, it’s at least optically looking like the Blizzard store marketing team has sat in on too many seminars on MTX than trying to actually supply a demand for better content.

It’s slop, it’s lazy, and it’s not sustainable.
