I’ve been pretty patient, I think, waiting for the game to settle down but it’s been months now and, on my server (Dreamscythe, classic anniversary) at least, the game is virtually unplayable for most of peak NA hours.
STV - the place is empty. Absolutely empty of mobs. Same goes for badlands, Un’Goro, etc., etc… I end up spending 80-90% of the time just running around looking for a mob to tag, and trying desperately to grab it before someone else does.
Let me address the criticisms before they’re raised: 1. switch layers - sometimes helps, but usually not. 2. Group up - yes, that works for kill quests, but not so great when you need a drop for the quest. Also, one is typically competing with a few other groups, each with 3-5 people in them.
There’s no excuse for this. Not now, after months of the iteration being online. Either increase layers/decrease population per layer and/or improve spawn rates.
I’ve given up trying to quest during peak play times. It’s simply more trouble than its worth. it’s just way too stressful. And when tbc drops, it’ll be far, far worse as everyone on the server will be the same level (or at the new race start zones).
Blizz, you need to do better. I love the game but this is making it very difficult for me to continue.
edit: “play a different server” is not a solution. Blizz fixing the problem is a solution.

Come play on Era, Whitemane (PVP) / Mankirk (PVE) for optimal enjoyment.
The only thing wrong is you selected the wrong server.

You should’ve played on Nightslayer. You’d have mobs to tag; all it would cost is getting corpse camped by 60s.

yeah, nah. shouldn’t have to psychically guess which server is best. Blizz can and should fix the bloody problem.
You have a very different experience than I do. Zones are busy but outside of a few quests everything has been pretty smooth (at least Horde side, I’ve been neglecting my alliance recently).
This I actually do think will be a problem.

need to work on your reading comprehension skills.
when i go into STV, it’s empty. whether in a group or not, there’s nothing to kill.
i’ve been playing wow since it’s initial release, i’ve experienced the rush at the beginning of new content, and every day is more or less the same as that initial rush. it’s broken.
(and if there are a bunch of threads raising this same problem… maybe that says something, yeah?)

Most groups will be living in dungeons to power level, riding a prot paladin and mage to 70. Disgusting to say but it’s true.
“I don’t want a single-player game. I want an MMORPG where I’m the main character and Im never temporarily inconvenienced by the presence of other players.”
Right, so you want the Era servers. Exactly what I said.
I leveled on Nightslayer and completely avoided STV, there were times I had to move from zone to zone to get level appropriate quests but there was never a time that nothing was available. Dungeons are always an option.

jeddite has trouble processing information
Or not. It’s never happened to me. There’s far from any guarantee that this will happen. More often than not, people want to finish their quests or move on.
We have so many people paying the mages for boosts that the questing zones aren’t too congested. And we also have plenty of roaming 60s.

I hate to break it to you, but the reason is because of layers. They essentially only provide enough layers to make the game as playable as it needs to be to retain most players. Layers weren’t for our benefit, it was for their benefit, it prevents them from having to maintain empty or dead servers. In so doing, they have provided us with an experience where it’s just playable enough that the majority of players wont leave. Trust me, spent three hours in STV on more than one night and barely completed two quests. It’s bad, but they aren’t going to fix it.

You leveled in Dungeons if you believe this.
STV was completely devoid of Mobs and I was ahead of the leveling curve for the most part.
I wasn’t talking about launch; I’m talking about the current state of leveling now. At launch everything was congested unless you were ahead of everyone which I was thanks to going tank and dropping consecration for mages. But most of the leveling zones aren’t congested these days. But Arathi fire eles, badlands earth eles, and other farming mobs are owned by 60s and you’ll never be allowed to touch one of those mobs.
just group with others, man.
You are wrong. I have five toons and two of them have leveled in STV. I have not been ganked once by a 60. Yes, it happens of course, but that’s not always the case.
