Anyone seen that video by Dratnos? It looks like overlays are coming to WoW and they can do all the busted stuff Weak Auras used to be able to do.
It looks like because of the changes made to combat logs for tracking Aug Voker damage lead down some rabbit holes. Real time combat logs can be read and untraceable mechanics in the game can be tracked by what is being live in combat logs.
Next escalation in the war between add-on makers and game developers advances.
All they need to do to avoid this is change combat log dumping to 30s intervals. Hopefully they do something. Nobody wants to go back to the ICC “draw on the world” addons.

He offered some good suggestions for Blizzard to make that would make it difficult for groups to utilize that info in real-time.

Just watched the video. He mentioned my idea in there as a possible workaround.

Kinda wild how the two worst things to come out of the collective combination of 10.1 and 10.1.5, Augmentation and Private Auras, singlehandedly caused this overlay junk to become an issue, and if neither of those things ever existed this probably wouldn’t have been brought up again.
Hopefully Blizzard draws a line in the sand with this stuff; nobody liked all the WA troubleshooting on Echo of Neltharion and this sort of stuff would be infinitely worse for the Mythic raiding scene.

This is how the game (d)evolves. Who’s to say they didn’t want this to happen without coming out directly and saying they wanted it to happen.
Some serious truth right here.

wasnt RVG banned for voerlays?
They got me to drop Bartender.
The SECOND I can port in my own artwork with the base UI then you can pry KGpanels out of my cold dead fingers. With the same functionality. (I’ve been trying to figure out how to make my own version of this using WA and KGpanels. Mostly art related.)
Insert whatever addon you love in that.
I want Bliz to hire some of these guys. And pay them actual good money. They’ve basically have been making up for you guys over the years with your own code.

I would drop Bartender but the DF UI changes still can’t compare with the bar-shifting that Bartender offers for Druids.
I’m still astonished that Blizzard didn’t add coordinates display to the UI so we could at least drop TomTom. It would be such a simple thing to do.

Man, Blizzard should really just bite the bullet and lock up the luas and ban addons in general at this point. Addons already drove raiding towards RNG and swirly hell.

Man… You really want nearly everyone to quit dont you?

No? I’d like the game to be good and end this silly war of attrition between addons and raid design

There is no “silly war of attrition”.
Blizzard isn’t putting the slightest thought into how people might deal with these encounter mechanics.

But your suggestion would make a lot of people quit, and it would have nothing to do with raid design.
Add ons do so much more than anything to do with raids.
If I woke up tomorrow and 100% of add ons were disabled…I would quit WoW and it would have nothing to do with raiding.

Mods shouldn’t be needed in a game, a company should provide all QoL/necessity ones by default.
The only really necessary one being RP ones. Raid ones are for the weak.
edit: addons not mods lmao. silly me.
Isn’t one of the most praised games of all time heavily mod based?
They aren’t needed. The only raid mechanic I can’t imagine doing without an addon was Mythic Queen Azshara.
They certainly make the game more fun, though, since the default UI is absolute trash.
