Removing layering doesn’t increase queues. Reducing realm population caps does.
Have they announced what the population caps are going to be?

Do you really think they would remove layering and leave the high population caps? The two go hand in hand.
These are two different things… which brings me back to the question. Have they announced what the population caps are going to be?
If to you “Classic WoW” only includes Vanilla, I gotta say that you’re crazy. If it includes TBC and WotlK(Minus LFD), I would agree.
Vanilla is a hot broken mess of unrealized classes, specialization and content.
Then go fight for what you want and stop trying to change classic into it
well, obviously. but they’re going to reduce cap when layering is removed so it will affect queues.
nobody said that layers themselves affect queues/cap that i’m aware of.
the two kind of go hand-in-hand when it comes to this issue.
They could just as easily reduce the cap before they turn off layering, and leave the final max pop at a higher level than Vanilla WoW servers (say, 5000-6000 instead of 3500-4000).
I actually don’t want to change Classic at all. I want them to open Museum Realms for all the “#NoChanges” idiots to rot and die on where they can live their wet dream of playing the worst incarnation of a game until the sun turns red.
Then I want them to open TBC realms then WotlK then deviate from the original path the game went in.
The second half of this is inevitable, by the way up, until the deviation part at least. TBC and WotlK realms are guaranteed.
I’m not the one who needs to be fighting. YOU ARE.
The stated goal is layering gone by a couple months at the latest, with vanilla server caps
I don’t have a source for this part.
Edit: Actually, the “couple months” part is bogus as well. At first it was “a few weeks” and now IIRC it’s “by phase 2”.
Listen, im all for burning crusade, its ultimately why im here.
What i am against is those who want to change classic from what it is designed to be.
That said, vanilla is not the worst incarnation this game has ever seen. In my eyes cata, warlords, and bfa are all worse by far
Ahh, no not at all. Things were Golden IMO all the way up through mid-way through WotLK even though some of the worse elements of Retail were implemented in small portions throughout TBC and WotLK such as Raid/Dungeon Finder, Daily Quests, and iLevel.
Back then it was balanced against the GOOD and still retained value but at a certain point the tipping point was reached and it was all downhill from there.
Obv that’s all my opinion only but I can tell you that nearly 2/3 of the folks I played with from 06-09 quit about the same time I did or shortly thereafter.
What i am against is those who want to change classic from what it is designed to be.
I don’t want 1.13 to ever go away and I don’t think it will, but I also don’t want it to linger as the sole means of playing old content for any longer than it has to.
i’m sure they could. they could do many things. but here i’m talking about when they remove layering and they said there will be severe queues when layering is removed. they’ve also already increased server cap after this post so when they remove layering and lower server caps(does that tickle you right?) then queues will go up.
they aren’t going to remove layers and leave the cap at a population that’s not healthy for a server. and since there were so many people falsely claiming that pop caps would remain the same by phase 2 when layers were removed, i bailed on a full server because there was zero way that would be a healthy server. illogical to think otherwise.
i’m willing to bet even a med server may get a short queue when this happens unless they increase server cap far beyond what vanilla servers were capped at. i wouldn’t want to be on a server that’s beyond med at that point anyways.
Then we want the same thing. Though im not a fan of the classic+ idea because blizzard has proven of late that they dont do creative free will well at all (layering, warlords, bfa, etc)
the simplest solution to that is just to add separate classic+ server(s). though my money would be on them releasing tbc then wotlk before that happens. both on separate servers of their own. so that would be in 6+ years they’d get to classic+
lets just find out over the next 6 months at least to see how well classic retains players in the first place. blizzard isn’t going to just dive into a project at a whim.
a population that’s not healthy for a server.
I don’t know what number that is. From my discussions with private server folks, the economy starts going to hell at around 6000 people (unless respawn rates are adjusted).

If the current cap is 12500 (I was seeing 60% as many characters as that when I was doing one-shot census runs last week), then High probably means 10000, medium is either 5000 or 7500, and low would probably be 2500. If realm pops caps go down to 3500 as people are suggesting, even medium pop servers could have a 4000 player queue. That’s on the order of 3 hours, depending on what time it is.
I suspect we’ll see either 5000 players as the new cap (higher but not CRAZY high like some pservers had), or layering won’t go away for a long time.
That’s not QUITE true- Kirtonos RARELY has ANY queue and it’s EST PvP.
I have NO IDEA how I got so lucky to choose that server but I’ve only ever had to wait in a queue for about 10ish minutes TOTAL over the last month.
if those numbers are right it’ll be interesting. my guess is pops will drop a chunk by then but it’ll also go back up some with phase 2 content.
my guess is, if pops are still so out of whack with what they want as a cap, that server transfers will be back with more new servers.
i still wouldn’t be betting on the playerbase remaining so high if i was blizzard. i took the safer option as a player though and bailed on a full server. both of us have no issues leveling up toons and gearing them out again so if the worst happens, its just more stuffs to do for us.

that’s 28 days ago btw /grin a couple days after people were trying to claim kirtonos was a dead server and nobody should go there. i laugh now.
blame me, i kind of necro’d it but it had relevant information people have been trying to claim is false for the past month.
I really want to transfer back to my realm or another realm. The current server I’m on is under populated and is hurting my will to keep playing.
