Really good post save #8. Layering is fine but the issue is they didn’t put up nearly enough servers to spread the population at reservation. They need to delete all servers and start again with reservations and new servers. Nothing short of this will even get close to working… Well if they let people transfer their characters two say other higher pop servers it may work… but very few will risk stalagg… one because its an awful name.
I saw that writing on the wall and rolled fresh on Stalagg once it was opened. I got 3 great names and took a gamble on a low pop server. Well it seems to have paid off cause this server is gonna be popping fresh once this game launches. Plus the Discord is so busy and filled with awesome people.
I’d like to not compete for names again on a new server because of an overpopulation issue. Maybe if we could have a grace period of say 24 hours to transfer our characters from the the over pop server to the fresh one I would consider it.
Blizzard screwed up. #1 this should have been posted prior to opening the new server so that everyone was aware of how dyer the situation was. #2 They should have given us a days notice prior to opening a new server so guilds could discuss whether or not to move off of Herod. If Blizzard wants to know why Stalagg isn’t more popular, it’s because they bungled the server release.
Eventually, they’ll leave one way or the other.
They can either do it now before investing in the server, or later after layering is removed and be hit with the sudden realization that trying to play during peak hours is gonna be a headache.
And they won’t open up any more until they’re certain people will populate it.
Opening up five new realms won’t help if they can’t even populate one.
Yep, No they done messed the bed.
Only fix is deleting all the servers and making news ones. Not saying they should but nothing short of that is going to fix their problem.
And yes this is Blizzards issue and fault. When people are waiting 10+ hours to log in and trash talking blizzard, some people will be like well you could go to a different server… No we/they planned ahead with what info we had available blizzard just KNEW better and released too few servers…
Now maybe blizzard is correct in that the attrition rate will be so bad, but then they need to keep layering around longer than they had thought. They need to pick one and soon rather than later for better results. Instead, they will pick neither and everyone will end up with a worse experience. Much like Stalagg, and current populations, instead of them acting to fix Herod’s massive over population, they just ask the players to fix it for them and leave it up to fate. SAD. Do something now Blizzard. Tell people if you planned on playing on Herod atm we aren’t allowing any new characters to be made. So unless your entire guild already has reservations you have to move (this is a great fix). Open 2-3 more servers as well for this movement. Also declare a date and time for name reservation.
Blizzard should take action instead of just sitting around asking others to fix what they already botched.
Yup! Force transfers! Random lottery at that at who goes!
The hell else can they do other than create a server and warn people, twice now, that they should consider rolling on another realm?
Its already massively overpopulated. Locking it now solves nothing.
Numerous reasons why population numbers wouldn’t be easy to figure
Best I saw so far was just that people just punched in names and hit accept as fast as they could to secure the names they wanted.
Next might be unknown number of tourists and press who go in for a look around then maybe blog about it and wander off.
Then maybe the group who go in on the most popular race of the most popular server and realize it’s too crowded to get anything done even with groups and layering, then reroll to some other race or faction or server. (Human start zone on normal server in stress test was a bit insane the first night for example.)
Then people spending different amounts of time on alts versus lasering one main to level 60 asap. Though I think pvp’ers have the most reason to level cap something asap or risk a levelling experience of getting 1-shot by the level capped people everywhere they go. (Thinkingh about what warmode was like the first month of bfa, versus what warmode was like on bfa three months later. :))
The underpopulated race and faction might be able to level faster early on…
Edit: Forgot the fact that people have different play schedules and/or might be playing from outside their timezone or during offpeak hours. Like my guild is on an EST server but we have a couple people from Europe and Australia and someone in the states planning to move to Europe. Aside from west coasters etcetera. (Recall the debate about wanting CST servers and responses that timezone is irrelevant and everyone is only an hour off one or the other server.)
I just want you to remember these are the same guys of “you think you do, but you don’t”
Just wait to the other half of players sub around the 27th, they will all be full. They are surveys out that already have around 40,000 responses and over half still do not have a sub…that is just the people that actually filled out the survey. That is a sample size of 40,000…actiblizz would do everyone a favor by not underestimating the interest in Classic.
you ment instant gratification sim 2019
Blizzard will purposely implement longer queue times on Herod to force people to lesser populated servers. You either stick to your guns the first 72 hours or you cave to their will.
Maybe it would have been better to simply have more realms at the start to meet demand instead of the insanely stupid layering idea…
We warned you Blizzard to have enough realms and to not underestimate Classic. This is what results when you think you know better than the community… again…
It’s likely this plea to change realms will fall on deaf ears unless you unlock the 3 toon limit. Many people have their names, and won’t risk loosing them by deleting toons to try to remake them on another server.
I’ll sit in a 5 hour queue. But I’ll never log off again. I already have a special set up that wont let the auto log to kick in.
Yeah really just not enough servers to begin with. They could have easily saw this before they opened name reservation on the forums seeing as how people were discussing where to go and saying there wasn’t too many places to go if you didn’t want to put up with a different language/streamers.
What happened to your community managers? Could have easily seen this coming with all the chatter on the forums before the name reserve when you announced the servers. But chose instead to shoot from the hip and hope people wouldn’t flock to the merger amounts of realms offered.
It doesn’t matter if Stalagg fills up or not (it will though). There’s no way they’ll let Herod reach release in this state.
If you don’t want to switch, then don’t. Herod 2 and 3 are inevitable.
The dev in me rn: why on Earth would you put a cap so high that you KNOW it would be a problem if hit?
Noobs. No, seriously. Gamedev 101: never bite off more than you can chew.
How do decisions like this get through the “hey yeah that’s a great idea!” phase?
