hey there. im not a player of wow but my wife is and she has been lagging a lot lately and i wanted to overclock her computer. my first question is, is wow CPU dependent or GPU? my second question is what would be the best overclocking settings? i haven’t overclocked before but I’ve been looking up a lot of stuff online and would like to get it right the first time if possible. thanks!
Jonathan.
At this point in the engine, both, but more heavily weighted towards CPU.
As for settings, it depends on what your hardware is.
We need to know processor and mother board.
As far as I know all ryzen cpu’s can OC but there are mother boards that cannot, anything in, I believe, the B series and the X series can be OC’d
In the intel line, your cpu has to be a K model, as in 9600K, otherwise the cores will not be unlocked. Your motherboard also has to be in the Z or X chipset IIRC.
Also, on top of that, safe OC values are based around a lot of things, your model of CPU, your model of motherboard, your case air flow and your CPU cooling implement.
my Processor is AMD A10-7700K Radeon R7 and my motherboard is an MSI A78M-E35 (MS-7721)
Are you using the CPU as the GPU or do you have a discrete GPU? It is also not recommended to OC on that model of Mother board as there is no VRM (where the power to the CPU goes through) heat sinks so unless you have really good airflow you may run into VRM overheat, which isn’t often a temperature that is tracked
If you are really in need of it though, max safe OC i’m seeing out of people is 4.5ghz at 1.45v, but that’s a lot of volts for a motherboard that only has a 4 pin power header and no VRM heatsinks.
i think GPU but im not really sure.
If you do not have a discrete gpu you may be better off buying a cheap GPU like a 1050ti

Sorry to say, OCing isn’t going to help much.
That old architecture is just too outdated.
that was one of the things i was worried about as well. i was thinking about upgrading anyway. thank you for the help!
RX 570 is a better buy, I feel.

130 + 2 free games is a steal
Oh dang, that’s a steal at that price. If you were planning on buying two of those games the card is basically free.
oh yeah i bought a cool master back when i got the computer so cooling isn’t a issue. i dont think anyways.
