Overall key binds

So idk how I got there but I have been using my mouse for movement for the longest time. Recently switching back to AWSD and am feeling overwhelmed and exhausted immediately. Haven’t really done anything in WOW due to this.

Anyone got key mind advice?

Fury and prot on this warrior is all I play. thanks in advance.

Practice, get yourself a Logitech MX Master and rebind the extra buttons on that to keys you can’t reach.

Get an mmo mouse if you really want to. I used a gamepad for the longest time and switching back to keyboard took awhile to get comfy with again.

Just bind around WASD to make it easy for you, and try to use the same keybinds for abilities shared across classes. Like kick, wall, big CD’s, etc.

I use both.
Mouse for basic movement. AWSD for strafing.
My main movement is usually hold W and turn with my mouse, and A/D to strafe.
My forward click on my mouse is auto run.

A hybrid system makes it easier for both hands.

To further make it easier. Get something like a razer naga. My left hand is pretty much only used for movement. Sometimes 1-3 for some abilities. Left pinky for shift binds, left thumb for alt binds.

My right hand does pretty much all the work for abilities and movement.

Left handed, mouse is all movement. Get one with 12-key thumbpad on the side of the mouse, if you’re not using the last 3 at the rear of it you can assign strafing and backpedal. Got a Corsair K55 keyboard has G1-6 on the left side for extra easy to reach keybinds. All my main abilities are assigned to 123 qwe asd zxc. All my defensives and boost abilities are on the mouse thumbpad.

Figure out a control scheme that works for all games, not just WoW.

Movement keys on one hand means being able to use the mouse to turn or use the cursor with other hand. Map one mouse button to ctrl, almost every game lets you bind ctrl+<key> for stuff, doubling the number of effective keys in easy reach for your kb hand. Ctrl specifically is good because ctrl+click, ctrl+c/v are so extremely common it becomes useful outside of games, and using each hand to do part of that combo means you’ll still be able to instantly do those things at age 90 when one-handed contortions are much harder.

I keep my hand on awsd where my middle finger is on w. I think most do.

I bind one of my important abilities to q so my hand won’t move. Then I just find literally every button around that…my hand never really has to move.

Obviously 1234 but r, f, e, caps, z, c, g,… You get the point. Like a circle of binds around that position. Just change the default ones to something on the other side of the keyboard.

Then…I have a normal gaming mouse. I would have to look it up for the name, can’t remember right now but it’s pretty standard. It has three buttons on the side for your thumb, and two little buttons above those. I set my main rotation for whatever the character may be to those buttons. Almost all toons have a 4-5 button rotation. Plus any kind of execute or (ohsht) button I bind to my mouse wheel.

Lol… sorry for the verbal diarrhea. Hope it helps a little.

Very helpful. I didn’t think of a gaming mouse but more and more people are suggesting it.

Thank you and everyone else for the input!

WASD

1-5 , shift 1-5, Q, E, R, T, F, G + shift modifiers of both, I only 3 mouse buttons.

Your left pinky should be resting on shift, use it.

Also bind A and D as strafe, don’t use turn left or right ever, unbind them. Use mouse movements still and spin camera when needed.

I really really like this suggestion.

In all Mmos for me.
Keyboard:
W- Forward
A - strafe left
D - strafe right
q- main interrupt
E R F sometimes buff / debuffs.
Rest of keyboard typically QoL or non play items like bags.

Naga mouse:
Steer
1 2 3 - single targets/spammables
4 5 6 - Aoes
7 8 9 - CCs slows etc
10 11 12 - Misc and / or as needed game specifics
*Note: Ctrl + usually used for heals, helps, or follow ups depending on game.

Personally, what I found to work over the years is build an unchanging base that works across games.

Depends on how you want to play.

Do you want to just use a keyboard?

Do you prefer controllers?

Mouse + keyboard?

Do you want to add foot pedals to mimic keybinds?

I recommend getting an mmo mouse with num pad on the side. The logitech one is always on sale during this time of year and Razer a tad overpriced. Anyways, Wut I do is place my main CC breakers, Interrupts around q, e, r, shift-e, shift-q, shift-r, everything else is 1-= and shift 1-=. Eventually you get use to it.

Not trying to be a comedian, but just switch back to what worked for you?

Mouse movement has been my method from the start. Keyboard movement is just clunky to me.

I was reletively pretty efficient with it but I struggled /w L R strafing and going backwards.
