Over priced pets

What’s the deal with this?
Ex: island expedition pets.
Have some of the worst Stats and/or movesets I’ve ever seen, but yet I see some listed for over 10-20k.

Just cause it’s a semi uncommon drop, doesn’t mean it’s worth alot of gold.

Time is money, friend.

For collectors who don’t want to spend the time to farm them, they’re willing to spend the money instead. Not everyone battles their pets, so to some the stats don’t mean anything.

Golden Snorf from Islands is currently offered at close to 70K even on busy realms, and some really crazy prices on the few low-pop ones that it’s even available.

I’d consider 70K a fair trade for having to run Island Expeditions dozens and dozens of times.

It’s worth whatever people are willing to spend on it. If you’re primarily a pet battler, it might not be worth 10k+ but for someone who just collects pets and doesn’t wanna sink an unknown number of hours in rng hell, 10k, 20k or even 50k might be well worth it to finish a collection.

Even if the pet is sub-par.

It also doesn’t cost anything significant to list a pet very high and have it not sell.

Golden Snorf is not from island expeditions.
It has a 2% drop rate from King Mechagon in mythic Mechagon.

Some island expedition pets are rarer than others. Many are common as weeds on the AH now and sell for 10 - 50 gold each. Some are rarer and more in demand, so why shouldn’t those who run island expeditions sell them for whatever they can get?

Should “poor” players be considered a charity now?

If you want i.E. pets and don’t want to pay the asking price, there’s an obvious answer. Run I.E.s yourself until you get them. Or does the thought of running the thousand or so it can take feel a little off-putting?
I’ve run well over a thousand I.E.s and still haven’t acquired an Adventurous Hopling, their drop-rate is so low.

That’s exactly what it means.

Pet meta power is very rarely a factor in price, and when it is, it’s a very small factor.

During Legion I looted 9 of these Sun Darter Hatchling…as it was puzzle you had to work though it…I learn 1 and sold rest off in one week at 250,000 gold each…2,25 Million gold off 8 each to get pets.

The Sun Darter is an example of an exceptionally beautiful pet that I’d want for looks and pay a lot for if I didn’t want to do that particular content.

My favorite, Son of Animus, used to be a lot more rare–I love it for looks, foremost, but it happens to be a very useful battle pet. I paid a lot for it when it was current content.

Over priced pets don’t sell. Under priced pets sure do!

Server population has a lot to do with it. I am on a very low population server and today i bought Fiendish Imp for only 1,200g

Other rare and sought after battle pets on my server cost about the same amount.

Does the low pop. create a buyers market, with low prices and well stocked shelves? Well-stocked by players, is what I am asking.

It is all very dependent on the server.

During the 10th anniversary event, I realized I had no desire to run Molten Core enough to get the pet. On my main server - Aggramar - the pet was selling for a very high price. At the time, someone had the battle pet market cornered and they kept the prices very high.

I had some alts on Dalaran, which at the time had very low pet prices. I was able to sell a few duplicate pets to raise enough gold to buy Hatespark the Tiny at a reasonable price.

Since then, I have created alts on several servers just for the purpose of buying pets cheaper than they would be on Aggramar.

The other thing you have to acknowledge is that listing pets is very cheap. So it really doesn’t matter that much how quickly they sell. If it takes 6 months to sell a pet at your price point, it doesn’t even cost you 1 silver.

Yes the low population creates a buyers market. Why not transfer to a low population server, buy a bunch of battle pets then transfer back. It’s like cross border shopping lol

One of the servers I’ve seen has a ton of multiple pets listed for much higher than usual and attempts to sell lower on that server don’t tend to sell–maybe pet battling and collecting aren’t popular. I’ve wondered if someone was using that AH as cheap storage.

Some people hate island expeditions and would rather do anything else.

You’re not a goblin, you can’t say that.

But you’re right. The price is what the market will bear
