Outlaw Identity & Spec Design

bring back combat rogue. give every class a new spec like how they treated evoker. leave the gun play and dice rolling to the outlaws. but i do miss dreadblades was fun for its time. hitting like a truck.

No doubt but they need to extend an olive branch so the healing can commence!

Dont you DARE take our guns away.

Don’t drop the pistol. Maybe decrease the over-reliance on it. It always bugged me that we have Pistol Shot and Between the Eyes and they look the same. When you Fan the Hammer it just is multiple Pistol Shots. Clearly this is all “efficiency” in using the Pistol Shot animation as often as possible… but maybe it can be changed up some. Cosmetically at a minimum. Can we change the pistol to a crossbow? A blunderbuss?

But don’t ditch the pistol outright. That’s crazy. It’s a very outlaw/pirate/highwayman thing, to whip out a sidearm.

Dreadblades is probably worth bringing back in SOME form, sure.

I’d argue that Blade Rush should be baseline for Outlaw. It’s also a very swashbuckler thing to do. It’s a rush toward your target and an attack. Feels even better to use, personally, with the loss of Shadowstep.

And since Shadowstep is gone, can we prune out the “Diet Subterfuge” stuff already because if I wanted stealth windows I’d … play Sub. I miss Shadowstep but if it’s a price to pay, so be it. Finish the job.

If “Rogues don’t have a dedicated dev” then as a class they must get discussed and iterated on the least by whatever brain trust is doing class revamps.

I like my flintlock glock. I also don’t really like playing stealth windows.
stealth windows is sub’s area
playing a melee rot spec is assassinations area
outlaw’s area should be the in your face, toe to toe, slashing ing and making that flintlock go brrr

I liked it when it was a proc from Fangs of the Father, as Dreadblades lost you 4% of your health every second for some really obnoxious reason.

That’s literally what Main Gauche means (Outlaw’s mastery)

Was interesting to read and see people’s opinion on Outlaw.

I honestly haven’t touched it since it became outlaw instead of combat. I didn’t like the changes so I left and didn’t look back

This was the original reason I hunted leech gear during Legion (and why it worked well). Now, class design is a combo point brrrrr printer, so that Dreadblades iteration is redundant. Would like to see some juice taken out of cramming Crackshot globals, and back into using Sinister Strike and Pistol Shot instead. But alas, that’s not the game anymore.

What happened that Assassination became the most new player friendly Rogue spec? It wasn’t always like this…

(Take my opinion with a salt grain, I quit retail, maybe for good, in favor of SoD and classic. It’s a completely different game, different genre.)

It literally means “left hand”, which is wild since “Sinister” is also left but strikes with the main hand.

(There’s a “two left feet” wordplay waiting to happen here…)

I AGREE. Im so addicted to this version of outlaw and I love crackshot.

Technically crack shot has no RNG to it, that comes from Ace up your sleeve.

I personally hate the stealth window gameplay. Mainly because there are so many variables that can contribute to wasting or negating your stealth window and then your damage just tanks.

I think it is poor design to have so much of the specs power tied into one single capstone talent. I have no idea how much less dps a non crack shot / subterfuge build would output, but I believe it would be non viable just taking into consideration Adrenalin rush uptime as well.

That’s another thing. Adrenalin rush needs to be a damage cooldown again and not a maintenance buff. I can’t describe enough how annoying this mechanic is.

Ultimately, Combat / Outlaw has always been the least stealth oriented rogue spec, and it has always been my favorite spec because I just like that brawler/dirty fighter archetype. Legion Outlaw was so much fun. I barely played BFA or SL so I’m not entirely sure when the shift happened to rely so heavily on stealth mechanics but it feels terrible to play.

I don’t want to take away the crack shot build because players do like it, but an alternative build needs to be available that more aligns with Outlaws theme and archetype.

The shift to stealth oriented gameplay happened in Dragonflight as far as im aware. In Shadowlands, we were mostly using Sinister Strike as our builder unless Vanish is off CD, then we used Ambush.

then youve played shadowlands extremely wrong. shadowdust outlaw was extremely competitive since its inception
