I’m trying to figure out how or if the Outlaw 4-piece bonus should affect usage of Pistol Shot. Obviously, Pistol Shot is generally only used when out of melee range, or if Opportunity procs. However, it seems that the 4-piece tier bonus changes this, since with six stacks of Tornado Trigger, Pistol Shot will do more damage than Sinister Strike due to the free Between the Eyes. What I’m trying to figure out is how many stacks of TT you need before PS is more beneficial than SS. Like, if I have 5 stacks of TT, is it better to just fire off two quick PS’s for the free BtE? I’ve checked rogue guides on Icy Veins and Wowhead, but they don’t mention any change to ability priority depending on TT stacks. I’m setting up my weak aura to show me TT stacks and alert me when I should use PS, so I’m looking for that magic cut-off. Anyone have any information or thoughts?
I might be wrong, but I do not think there is a point where a single PS without Opp will outweigh a SS.
SS has a chance to double strike, with both strikes having a chance to trigger MG and the MG can trigger the 2p.
I believe it’s a very minimal dps increase to also immediately consume the 6 bullet TT buff.
But I might be wrong.
I don’t see why you’d ever use pistol shot just because of the 4p. You can do your normal rotation and apply your own BTE while cycling with Opportunity procs + 2p procs to get another BTE.
Pistol shot isn’t worth the damage since it can’t double hit like SS.
Thanks, this is what I was wondering. It’s weird that adding 3k+ damage to PS still doesn’t make it worth more than SS, particularly since that’s more than Opp procs.
My back-of-the-envelope math based on tooltip damage was something like:
1.4k SS + 0.35 (double-strike chance) * 1.4k + 0.3 (MG chance) * (1.4k (MG damage) + 0.25 (2p chance * 1k (PS damage)) + 0.35 * 0.3 * (1.4k + 0.25*1k) ≈ 2.5k
where as 1.0k (PS) + 3.4K (6cp BtE) = 4.4k.
Yeah, this doesn’t take into account the damage increase to the next PS from the Opp procs, or the extra combo points from the second SS or 2p procs. Just trying to get a feel for how it plays out.
I have been struggling with this too. The way I see it, if you have 6 stacks of tornado and BtE debuff is about to go off, just hit that pistol shot to reapply BtE.
With less than 6 just manually hit BtE.
That’s how I have been doing it. Might be wrong.
With the concealed blunderbuss legendary there are so many extra pistol shots going off I really don’t have to monitor BtE at all.
Taking CB usually ends getting people in trouble…
I mean I’m using it on my own combat rogue, but it simply can’t keep up with Celerity, notwithstanding the set bonuses.
I don’t use celerity anymore myself. Mostly because I don’t like using a ring for my legendary.
I tried the vanish legendary too, but didn’t really like it either. Felt clunky to used.
Concealed blunderbuss is sort of plug and play with the 4 set bonus. That’s why I like it the best.
According to bloodmallet, all three are pretty close.
