Outland Cup

The Outland Cup–

I think my favorite part of this cup, is seeing so many players with decorated drakes all lined up and doing the event. So many colors, shapes, sizes, textures… It is really the sum being greater than the whole of its’ parts, and a testament to the power of the art department at Blizzard in channeling creativity into a form that players can feel ownership over, as well as individuality as they pursue the joys of flight.

In terms of the lore, I found myself wondering, what ever happened to Netherwing Ledge? That seems like every Outlander’s aspiration from back in the day: Grind a netherdrake to ride through the skies… I was a bit disappointed to see that I would not be racing through the Netherwing Mine or around the many heights of the Netherwing Ledge. This is one race I wish I could see included if they ever expand this event.

In terms of difficulty, I think it is appropriate. I recently obtained my “Isles Ace” title and this Outland racing is a nice balance of difficulty on Advanced, vs simplicity for the average drake rider.

One thing I do wonder about-- Will there ever be a challenge mode and challenge pet reward or mount customization on these event races? I daresay that would be quite nice. Perhaps a victory wreath done up in the theme of the expansion for the neck of the appropriate drake… Netherwing for outland, Wilderdrake for Kalimdor, etc.? It would be a fun addition to the dragons’ growing wardrobes.

All in all, I am having a ton of fun with this event. I do sometimes wish there were not so many players blocking my vision, so it would be nice if I could fly the courses without seeing other players, unless this was specifically designed as a rally race.

In fact, for coming expansions, why not make the achievement solely rally races? Or add rewards for existing rally races in the Dragon Isles?

Just some thoughts  … Do have a pleasant day!

Sincerely,

Midorí

On another note-- When I mouse over other players’ “Race Times” buffs, it would be nice if the buff would show me the times others are taking. It is always nice to see what attempts people are making around me.

Also adding: Races like Eco-Dome Excursion are very long in timer, but they do not feel this way because of the constant terrain change. Nice choice in race setups! I like it when the races don’t feel super long for their timers!

I am so freaking pissed off atm. I am trying very hard to do this event because I have no idea when it will be back around if ever and I can’t do barely any of the races, let alone get good times.

I had finger amputation on 1/10/24, missing 1/2 ring finger and 3/4 of pinky finger and trying to control the mouse through these obstacles has seriously triggered my moderate to severe depression.

If it helps, you can do them on multiple characters (including the quest that rewards 80 tokens) and as long as you can complete the course at all you’ll get bronze, which is still 3 tokens per racetrack.

It might take a bit longer but you can still get all of the rewards off the vendor without having to do very well at the races, and you have plenty of time to do so before the event ends.

The netherwing flight made their way to the Dragon Isles in the Emerald Dream patch and I guess all the Orcs, Flayers, and Miners were killed off in our zeal for netherwing eggs.

I’m having a hard time even getting to bronze because my hand will flinch on its own and with all these obstacles, I keep clipping things. I am trying as hard as I can and yes in the past, I have used multiple characters to get all the rewards. But the achievements are more what I aim for because of OCD.

Even trying to move my mouse around trying to correct typing mistakes it takes me a couple tries to click and correct the issue. It’s just really frustrating not to be able to do this limited time event at the level before my amputation’s.

can not wait for the Northrend Cup - April 11th to April 25th, 2024.

That does sound frustrating. I’m really sorry that you have to deal with that :pensive:

I do know that they intend to cycle through these race events, so at least it’s not a ‘gone forever’ limited time thing. Maybe with some physical therapy you’ll be better able to complete these races when they come back around? I don’t know your specific situation, but I do hope that you’ll be able to get there.

Where is this quest? I’m WoWheading it now but no luck. This is my first time doing the cups as I hate dragon racing with a passion but I do want the mog pretty bad.
I only need to do Zangar and Nagrand on the toon I’m doing it on, so I may need to start over on a fresh toon I was planning on doing multiples anyhoo to try get all the mog in one cup cycle.

Thanks in advance.

The guy is next to the place where you can change your drake appearance in Valdrakken.

You can also get the quest from your adventure journal.

Thank you.

Not finding it my adventure journal, but I’ll swing by Vald on my next toon to pick it up. Appreciate it!

Wish it wasn’t a limited event, as far as when I will regain full use of my hand without the flinching, don’t know. It definitely is frustrating me as I can barely control what I click in game sometimes as I am a clicker, and don’t use key binds. macros or WASD for movement instead the arrows.

A new mouse might help but I am currently using a Death Adder mini, and I have never really gotten mice better than two button. Some of the recommended mice I have looked at which allows my ring finger to sit on a third finger rest it adds an action you can click (useless as I’m missing half that finger). Also noticed a lot of the mice people recommend add like 12 thumb buttons and a few more on top of the mouse and serious no idea how my thumb would work those buttons.

Anyways, thanks for the chat. Goodluck on your races and may you get gold on all of them.
