Other PvP Games

You’re all PvP gamers.
Can anyone suggest another MMO with good PvP?
Preferably something with a combat system that isn’t TAB targeting, has arenas, battlegrounds, etc.

I used to play Tera and loved the live-action combat system it had.
I might try it again, but I think another US publisher took over, and it got weird with them.
I’ve also played Blade & Soul which also had a pretty good combat system that is close to what I’m looking for.

WoW PvP is decent, and I’ve had a lot of fun playing it over the years.
Combat in this game just feels unfulfilling and non-interactive.
I feel like I spent way too much time watching my own and other player’s cooldown timers like they are the countdown for something interesting to happen.

Not trashing WoW. I will most likely keep playing WoW, and I’m pumped for TBC!
Everyone I met in retail since I came back seems to be gone now. :frowning:
Just not feeling WoW at the moment, so looking for some suggestions on some other games to get into.

This sounds like a short list. To be clear, you want an open targeting system, like, everything is aimed?

But + arena and + bgs?

I’m more interested in replies since I haven’t really played an MMO that fits this yet.

That being said I havne’t tried BDO or Warhammer.

The only other mmo i can think of that has arenas is SWTOR.

The only mmo I can think of that doesn’t use a wow-style targeting system is ESO. (Which has bgs but not arenas)

unfortunately my list is pretty short.

Maybe play Star Wars Squadrons? Lol. Ranked star-wars starfighter game. very unique and different approach to multiplayer pvp.

Yes, there are a few game like this out there. Like I said, Tera was one that had a GREAT combat system like this. You should look up some videos. I don’t know if I can really do it justice.

Basically it’s like an MMO with FPS crosshairs. You use abilities and it will go towards the player or area you are targeting in your crosshairs.
There are some classes that are designed to be tanks and can block frontal attacks, but they actually have to use an ability to block it.
There really isn’t anything “passive” in the combat system at all.
If you want to attack something, block an attack from something, or dodge an attack from something, you have to actually do something to make that happen.

Look up some videos and check it out, or just go play it. I’m pretty sure it’s still free to play.

Things that distracted me from wow in my life over the years worth considering.

Gunz the duel, last of us 1&2, league of legends, legend of dragoon, darksiders 1, dark souls, slay the spire.

Not much can beat wow for me and even then here I am back again for a good chunk of my life.

guild wars 2 isnt bad i dont think. combat system kind of like tera. FF14 is pretty and smooth also. GW2 is free after you buy the game and ff14 is like 13 a month

So much truth in this, OMG… IMO, this is the reason why Blizz doesn’t care too much about PVP - because nobody else is a threat to WoW’s niche PVP style, sadly…

I’ve been addicted to Archeage since it came out. The game is in a cycle of play the fresh start server for 6 months and quit until the next. Next fresh start is march 25th. Very addicting pvp game

While technically free to play I do have to warm that I end up spending an absurd amount of money each server (with average amount of in game grinding full gear will cost 1-4 grand ) and the whole game seems setup to take advantage of hardcore cash grabbing their players, most of which are gambling addicts.

Nonetheless I think the pvp is more fun than WoW as it revolves around guilds open world contesting each other over world bosses which leads to very VERY good drama and politics .

For examples of general combat feel just search archeage pvp in youtube and add the tag of darkrunner for melee or just mage/archer/healer for those. Game is incredibly fast paced and a mix of tab targeting and skill shots with animation cancelling and the ability to desync attacks with movement (hope you have great Internet)

If you end up playing hit me up as I’ll be there to the disappointment of my wife, I’ll get you into one of the relevant pvp guilds and show you the ropes.

It’s been polished to a fine sheen of bronze. :joy:

Sounds pretty cool. I will check it out.
GvG is always fun. People get real crazy with it.
Not sure want to spend 4k on gearing though. That’s nuts lol :stuck_out_tongue:

You can replace gear with skill and with enough work full gear f2p it’s just hard

1-4 grand r u srs lol

Yup, I usually end up spending the low end of that and it’s because I’m willing to cheat for gold since the servers are very temporary. The game is mostly trust fund babies with gambling problems.

The pvp is 100% worth it though I do recommend it as a side game for people looking for a new experience.

If you though first week of shadowlands rogue was bursty you’re in for a treat

do not recommend me a new form of scum cash grab game to me plz i played epicduel for 5 years and probly spent 1-2k over that time

actually mortified at my actions in retrospect especially since you can’t even log into that game anymore

I’ve tried a lot and nothing even comes close to wow.

Games like call of duty are fun multi-player wise. But nothing with combat like wow is even remotely comparable.

I don’t think that game exists. Tera would have been my only suggestion.

Really, WoW for all it’s faults is still the king of MMOs PvE and PvP.

WAIT!!! SWToR has arena now!!!

I could play Huttball forever, best BG ever made!

Guild Wars 2 is quite enjoyable and in their BGs everyone has the same level gear. Lots of diversity options in builds.

Big fan of guild wars combat and stuff. Just no arena so it gets dull

Best part about GW2 is that you only have to get to level 2 and you can compete at the same level as everyone else.
