I actually do think there’s something to ESO

like wow? there really isn’t any, mainly because they go all in on wow clone and it fails spectacularly; see bless online, this isn’t to say blizz has some magic in the bottle, i’d wager if wow was released today fresh as SL it would fail as well. what keeps it going is essentially sunk cost fallacy

Final Fantasy 14 is alright if you can get past the boring player races and break through early questing, which is very hard, or want to boost to current content. There’s a lot to do in that game.

FF14 is similar but a lot less pvp orientated. Great story and class system though. Never actually played myself but people swear by it.

Black Desert Online is pretty cool. Combat system is nuts and there is decent endgame content for pvp. No dungeons or raids but there is a lot of slice of life pve options. Fishing, breeding horses, player housing, and a bunch of other stuff. Plus there’s no subscription cost so once you buy it you have it forever.

League of legends.

There is nothing that replaces WOW, you will probably figure that out and come back at some point.

I’m a huge fan of ESO. I spend about equal times in both ESO and WoW.

In my opinion - wow is better in terms of classes and combat mechanics. Their end game is better, their dungeons/raids/pvp is mechanically superior. Also with the 12 classes there is a lot of class fantasy and uniqueness to the individual classes.

But ESO, again in my opinion, blows WoW out of the water when it comes to questing, leveling, worldbuilding, lore, fully voice acted immersion, character customization, transmog/armor dying, housing, lore, lore and more lore (an endless library of in-game books you can read), graphics (I personally like ESO’s appearance better but that’s just me), and lastly freedom.

ESO gives you the freedom to try stuff out. YES there are Meta builds. Yes, you can go to Alcast’s website and get the meta build for DragonKnight DPS and follow that, but I feel like ESO and its community is far less punishing when it comes to trying out other class builds. And their armor is all like specially named sets with abilities that you can mix/match/theorycraft with. I just wish there were either more class options or that they did away with classes all-together and let you build based on magic schools and weapons like in previous Elder Scrolls games.

Also, ESO doesn’t have the same kind of End Game or constantly increasing level caps. Their expansions all feel within the same world, and there isn’t all the messy business of time travel/chromie time and stuff. You don’t feel like your immersion is broken if you do Vardenfell and then Orsinium and then Skyrim and then Summerset. And they don’t raise the level cap, so the point of the game isn’t really tied to an endless hamster wheel of progression.

But, that is just like, my opinion…man.

aww no…yeah no.

True brother

Any other ones?

Star Wars the Old Republic is basically a WoW clone in SW universe. Art style is different though. If you want a good mmo, try ESO or Final Fantasy, imo.

I bought ESO back when it released as a backup for when I got tired of wow, the poor game is sitting there on my steam gallery filling cobwebs and rust.
Well thanks to two terrible expansions in a row I might actually start playing it now!

Might give eso a shot

Lotr online? Don’t know, if it plays like wow, but they do have orcs, humans, dwarves, elves, and gnomes/hobbit

I really like ESO as an alternative to wow. Every zone is always alive with people because of how their scaling works. I think they’ve done a wonderful job with their open world content and their questing experience is superior.

Combat though…

FF14 is great.
ESO is pretty darn good.
There’s a bunch of new MMOs about to come out like Ashes of Creation and New World that all look like a lot of fun.

ESO’s combat is like every other ES game. It’s an ES game for people who like ES. I prefer tab target myself OR 3rd person shooter/hacknslash.
