Other ancient races in War Within you want to see

One of the premises in War Within is journeying underground and interacting with Ancient races. So far we have the Earthen the Dwarf ancestors, the Arathi the first Human civilization, and the Nerubians one of the members of the Black Empire.

What other ancient races or civilizations do you think we might run into as we go deeper underground towards the heart of Azeroth?

I will be surprised if Trolls don’t show up. They are one of the oldest races on Azeroth. Maybe the Dark Trolls, primordial Trolls, or some new offshoot (Fire Trolls?)

We know Kobolds are there as well. I am betting Drogbar, Nifflen, and Troggs are all likely to appear as well.

Maybe the Qiraji and Silthids? Or the Mantid?

Maybe evem an entirely new race that was lost to history and has no records of existing after the Titans and Old Gods messed with Azeroth.

There’s a screenshot (not sure where it’s from, the trailer I guess?) of Talanji in what appears to be the nerubian zone, so trolls will probably be present in some form or another. Makes sense since they fought the aqir a long time ago.

I feel like going underground and dealing with the world-soul is the perfect opportunity for more black flight stuff (especially with them now being blessed directly by Azeroth herself), but I worry Blizzard will go “black dragons just had their time” and shelve them despite it making sense for them to be here.

Over the years, I have thrown out the idea of the forces of Azeroth losing, and having to go way way back in time. Maybe for WoW 2. In that far away past, I thought we would have Earthen for the Alliance and some sort of ancient Troll ancestor for the Horde. And maybe “good” insectoid type bug people (spiders, wasps, bees, something).

It looks like TWW will have the Earthen and Bug people. Though the Horde part is ignored. Color me shocked…

Maybe that will come along. Some sort of Troll or Tauren ancestor. I wouldn’t mind a Vulpera variant, but now I know I am getting greedy.

Maybe we’ll run into those “Primordial Trolls” that were mentioned by the developers in the lead up to Dragonflight, that one could infer were intended to be the Djaradin but the idea was dropped for what ever reason.

It’s that familiarity and wonder at the same time. It’s hard to capture, but it’s something we’re focusing on. Across the zones, you’ll meet Centaur clans, primordial Trolls, or even revisit the Tuskarr. It’s a nice balance between the “new” and “familiar”.

Trolls made the most sense.

Other than that, it’s hard to say. We’re talking about races which are ancient and also native to Azeroth.

Something entirely new and unseen would be best, something that went extinct on the surface long ago. Given the zones we have, however, it’d be hard to squeeze much in. Some kind of rodent race might be pretty nifty.

Be sort of cool if we saw a before unknown group of dark trolls given their whole thing is living underground. Perhaps have them be a group that fled Kaldorei persecution and expansionist intentions.

Ancient elves, high elves that broke away from quel’thalas before the fall, they will become high elves for the alliance only and will replace the NE. All NE will have high elf body types, this patch is the farewell patch for NE, they will all sleep in the dream .

Being serious though…

I hope gnomes and trolls get an ancient race that conects them to their origins.

Gnomes descend from these guys:

It would be neat to see some Mechagnomes around too though. They make a good counterpart to Earthen.

I know but i wanted to see them as a civilization and not just toys in mimiron’s possession.
If the dwarves could get this kind of missing link representation maybe the gnomes could too, i mean for once be something other than the clown race to cheer everyone up.

It bugs me a little they made machine speaker earthen as a thing now that I consider it more. That should of been a Mechagnome thing.

I want to see the ancient Tol’vir who went to Northrend and were assimilated into Nerubian culture.

But I don’t think I will ever see them.

Like alot of things that are taken away for elves or humans/orcs to get the spotlight.

For once let the less played races shine in the sun, a underdark expansion would be the perfect setting to have gnomes and goblins to show up and deal with alot of those lost to time plots they had like kezan, gnome/ goblins ancestors, but alas will we get more humans

Some giants would be cool, haven’t really seen any since Wrath.

I’m actually pretty jazzed for the Arathi humans, after the fine job I felt was done with Kul Tiras (even if I have no interest in the playable allied race). But I definitely was a bit shocked when I read about Machinespeakers.

They were concept art from a few expansions ago that never made it in, but the shapeless would be cool to see. They were described as the old gods, “play-doh”.

I’d like the ancestors of the Furbolgs, especially if it gets Timbermaw to have some updated lore, maybe even linking those people to the Wolver and Gnolls and maybe making the theory that the Pandaren were mutated from Furbolgs similar to Jinyu from Murlocs canon. I did the Timbermaw rep on an alt last month and it reminded me that their story doesn’t really go anywhere, unless there were quests for them that were removed in Cata that I’m not remembering like the conclusion to Shady Rest Inn.
