Ossirian in Chromie's Codex

I know us old-timers often like things “the way they used to be”, but does anyone else think Ossirian in Codex shouldn’t be taunt-proof? I never see Tichondrius or Kel’thuzad killing half the group, but Ossirian almost always does, because the DPS get ahead of the tanks and then die one by one.

Two big things make this a really bad mechanic:

  1. Codex is gonna be a whole lot of random people who don’t know what they’re doing;
  2. a whole lot of modern players have probably never done AQ20 in a raid. If they’ve done it at all, they soloed it or duoed it when they were OP and may not have even realized this is a thing.

Any thoughts? I didn’t put this in “bug report” as I don’t think it’s a bug precisely, but in this case “working as intended” may not be the best idea.

It’s super easy. Can it help? Sure. Needed? Nah.

So they added a boss that most players never fought when AQ was current. Not every boss is a tank n spank. The crystals work the same way they did in the raid. If more people knew that fight, fewer wipes would ensue. As a Druid tank, I recall it all too well and have never wiped on this. They are also not the only taunt proof boss in the game.

So what ARE the mechanics of this boss? Ive googled and come up empty.

Ossirian the Unscarred is the most dangerous due to the whirlwinds he spawns and the curse that deals a lot of damage if it isn’t removed. As long as your tanks can keep the boss occupied and the healers keep everyone alive, you should have little trouble taking the boss down. But the tanks need to kite to the blue glowing crystals and trigger them. They keep the whirlwinds at bay and allow Melee to do what they need to do.

Correct me if i’m wrong but I believe it is because Ossirian (in Chromies Codex) fixates on targets until one of two things happens

  1. They die
  2. He gets stunned by the obelisk.

After which he picks a new target.

According to https://warcraft.wiki.gg/wiki/Ossirian_the_Unscarred_(Codex_of_Chromie) he has the following ability

Strength of Ossirian — Ossirian’s strength grows every 5 sec, increasing his damage by 20%, decreasing damage taken by 5%, and causing Ossirian to fixate on the nearest enemy. Strength of Ossirian stacks up to 10 times.

So yeah the Codex version does fixate. Meaning he is immune to taunt by default. You cannot taunt a target that is fixated (well you can but it does nothing).

So it has nothing to do with dps pulling threat off the tanks. If people are dying, it is because they don’t run him to an obelisk and activate it while they are fixated. Activating an obelisk while he is near stuns him and removes all of his ‘strength of Ossirian’ stacks. Which does increase his damage by 20%, up to a maximum of 200% (10 stacks).

The majority of the players that I have encountered with this don’t even know there is a buff so think that taking him to the obelisk is the reason that they die in one shot. they die in one shot because they have ignored the people telling them to take him to the obelisk for the last 2 minutes and he has a full buff stack.

he was buffed recently i believe, not sure about the other 2
