Original Blizzard Authenticator

Hey guys, I know the authenticator keychains came out after classic (at least the one I have) but just wanted to share a quick little story.

So I was moving around my office this last weekend, got a new desk and finally a monitor mount for my damn screens that have pretty much swamped my old desk for the better part of a year. (Getting ready /flex) Along with that I had to get some side drawer thingy-ma-giggers to move all my junk outta the plastic bins that have sat idle since I moved in the house like 5 years ago (LOL, yeah my wife was on me about that)

ANYWHO, so going through all my trinkets and resorting, I found quite a few things. Some old knives, lighters (TONS OF LIGHTERS), old CD’s, some really old floppy disks (google it if you’re not sure) my murloc cards from the TCG and my blizzard account authenticator keychain. LOL, yeah a keychain. It has a button…so I pushed it…and damn thing lit up with a chain of numbers. MAN, that was crazy, that thing sat idle for at LEAST 8 years.

Anyone else still have one of those? Does it work? It really took me back :smile:

I have a friend that used his original wotlk authenticator all the way until last year when the battery finally died. Those things are tanks.

I still use my original Authenticatior today. Battery still holding in there.

Yeah pretty sure mine was from TBC, not sure if they were all themed but the graphic on mine looks like its from Hellfire zone

I dont remember when I got mine but it shortly after I logged in one day during Christmas time to find my char in a IF fireplace naked wearing only a red santa hat LMAO

I found mine as well when cleaning up, it was the core hound themed one though.

If I remember, you could get a themed one or a standard blue “Blizzard” one. I have the Blizzard.

OH man, yeah sad face. I’m pretty sure that’s what pushed me to get one. I remember at the time I only had like 3 characters and I’m pretty sure my “friend” ganked my gold. Had to go 2 factor on that sucker from then on.

I forget when I removed mine from my account, and I don’t have it any longer, but it was still running when I removed it.

YEAH YEAH, corehound, thats what was on it. I couldn’t make out the full graphic…rubbed out quite a bit

Tbh without the hound it does look like it’s hellfire themed. It’s still probably my favorite out of the Authenticator colors, core hounds were always pretty cool.

Didn’t it come with a pet too? Or was that the penguin.

I think I got mine (Cataclysm) from Blizzcon. I still use it.

OH MAN, i can’t remember what pet it came with if it did. But i do remember having chilly, just not sure where he came from LOL.

Mine has the blue “Blizzard” font on it, but the battery died last year. :frowning:

Mine still works, though I have to use something to slam the button down because it hurts my fingers to press it so hard lol. Thankfully, I don’t have to use it very often, but it’s always hanging from my mic on my desk so I don’t lose it…even though I put it on a lanyard.

I’ve had mine for about ten years and it worked fine when I recently changed my game password which triggered it.

I am on my second one and it still works great.

I tried to use mine, and it didn’t work. I contacted Blizzard support and they told me those old authenticators are no longer supported and don’t work. :cry: :sob:
