I’ve never had an Alliance character, so I’m not sure how it is in their cities, but…
It’s right in front of our faces. Most of us probably just don’t see it yet. There’s a huge cultural disconnect.
I was in Orgrimmar the other day… I saw players having fun… throwing snowballs or whatever at each other, dueling… Some mid 40’s level player chasing after critters for pets… Recreational activities… At least it still exists like this for now, albeit less populated…
Every time i go back to Oribos… it’s just a bunch of people standing there doing nothing, or people passing through on some mission…
Orgrimmar days. fun times…
Oribos days… New york stock exchange. They even have broker names for NPC’s… lol
At least Orgrimmar is still there and you can still see it for yourself while it lasts. Orgrimmar is freedom… Oribos is not… Where would you rather be spending your time?
I’m not sure exactly what direction they are headed in, but I would ask them (Blizzard) to reflect and not forget where they came from and what made this such a successful game, before certain things get too complex and taken too far…
Of course it’s still a game on the surface… If mom comes down to the basement to bring you dinner and sees you playing wow. It still looks like a game to her… but hopefully it still feels like a game in the future.
Oribos is, to put it charitably, a place where people work. The attendants attend, the broker… broke… and we go through to get missions and receive loot. Nobody lives there; the people who would live there, don’t really live in the first place. So it’s natural that it feels sterile in comparison to a proper city.
Oribos is a factionless hub where we have established our main command center and meet with new found and past allies. We are there to solve the problems of a world that is unknown to us and with complexity we do not yet fully understand. This place is central in the unfolding of the story and is necessary for the action of the game.
“Death is a bureaucracy” is a pretty consistent theme in a lot of mythology and I think Oribos carries that idea pretty well.
The Attendants even straight up said that the only reason they’ve organized it with the services they have is because we’re there. They have no need for things that mortals desire.
That makes sense and I see where you are coming from. Perhaps the title of my post could be misleading. I realize they are two different cities as far as lore. That’s fine. And I’m fine with oribos being that way… I was just trying to point out the direction that I felt the game was heading and how the differences I saw in the players in these cities kind of reflects the way the game is played nowadays. Just something to think about I guess. I am hoping in the future they will preserve these aspects that make it feel like a game and not a job. It was just interesting the disconnect I saw with my very eyes over the course of an hour or so while traveling after not being to Orgrimmar for a while, as far as the player activities, not necessarily the lore.
We should have never gone to the WoW afterlife for an expansion.
OP I get what you mean. People seem to play more in the older cities and faction hubs. I saw it in dalaran during legion also. Oribos is simply a large and very boring crossroads (not THE crossroads, barrens, kalimdor. But the actual definition of the word. Which is cool and all that but not so cool for an mmo
