Orc Stun Resist - Some Data

So, I’ve been curious about the orc stun resist racial. Have been testing it over the last few days with the help of several rogue friends. Sorry I can’t put in a pretty spreadsheet. Also, as always this is a small sample size, it could just be RNG favoring/not favoring and coincidental but it’s fun to test out and see.

Rogues were hit capped (9%) so there were no misses. One was an orc, two were undead just for reference. We only used cheap shot/kidney shot since to be honest, I wasn’t sure if gouge was a stun effect.

Kidney Shots Used: 135
Kidney Shots Resisted: 18
Kidney Shots Dodged: 4

Cheap Shots Used: 150
Cheap Shots Resisted: 17
Cheap Shots Dodged: 8

In this data it looks like there was a 13.3% (repeating of course) resist chance on Kidney Shots. And on Cheap Shot there was a 11.3% (again repeating of course) resist chance. The dodges happened because we were running around like we were dueling (I was just healing). So, we’re assuming spell-batching/odd angles tweaked the server into having the rogue seem like it was attacking from the side or front instead of from completely behind.

I know there was a lot of debate of what the wording on the racial actually means. I myself have argued it’s a 25% chance increase to the already present base rate (which people argue is either 5% or 10%). Others have said it’s just a flat out 25% chance to resist, so effectively either 30% or 35%. Some classes have talents they can take to increase the chance further (I think). I myself do not use any pvp talents in my resto build. I am also wondering if the added dodges are what makes it FEEL like more to enemy rogues? Not everyone uses floating combat text, and in the rush of PVP people may just assume it resisted? Anything is possible.

You can take from this what you will. I could have gotten lucky, and the chance is actually much higher. OR, this could be accurate. Sadly, it doesn’t fully solve any of the potential questions. If I had more time or more willing frens, I could have done a 1000 stun sample. But, I was already boring them with this. Thanks for reading.

In my experience orc stun resist is 95% of the time…

Color me surprised when I found out I wasn’t stunned 95% of the time.

My pally friend goes while everytime an orc resists his stuns. I do get a lot of resists from iron grenades.

I honestly had an orc Hunter trying to pull distance resist both my charge and intercept.

Thankfully I used my diplomacy to talk my way out of the rest of the fight because racials are pretty much equal between the races…

Lol what a joke of obvious bias

Why didn’t you hamstring him?

When someone is running away from a charge, and you charge but the stun resists they are beyond the distance of the hamstring attack.

That’s why they are suppose to have that one second stun. To insure you can get the hamstring off.

Charge then hamstring, they’re in range for being hit right away without the stun.

No they are not. They are beyond distance.

Right, ok, well I’m done teaching people how to play WoW for today.

Ok well thanks for the lesson. Please come back this afternoon for your next course entitled “water is wet”

If they have a movement speed buff its possible for them to be out of range of hamstring when the warrior arrives, if the stun resists. Even more so if the warrior has any kind of slow on themselves.

That’s what piercing howl is for btw.

This is a very tiny sample size

piercing howl is not part of the discussion.

I could have also used my engineering, if we wanna play “know it all” pvp teacher in this thread.

The point of my experience was about passive orc stun resist and how fun it is to play against. And how it’s balanced because I have diplomacy.

So let’s stop with the woulda shoulda coulda…

Uh it absolutely is part of the discussion. If you’re not using your abilities then it’s not a racial ability that makes you bad.

Isn’t hamstring a snare?

Edit: LOL, I just realized you meant why wouldn’t the warrior hamstring.

Am dumb. Can confirm.

For sure, but it was still interesting to do. And, everyone kept on getting bored and telling me I was a nerd for caring.

Eh, if you enjoy it, that’s all that matters. Plus raw data is always useful.

I, for one, sincerely appreciate you sharing the data from your experiment.
