Orc paladins

why not

ion was asked recently if a void elf paladin made sense. he said no but still said anything is possible in the future. while i think void elf paladins are lazy, further dilute what little differences remain between void/blood elves and destroy the light vs dark dichotomy the 2 races have going currently, i have no interest in them. they are basically identical to a blood elf paladin and bring nothing new or interesting

orc paladins on the other hand would be fascinating imo and orcs have embraced this path in other fantasy settings(orc templars in ESO). between maghar priests and blood elf(high elf) paladins, orc paladins seem very plausible

they even put a silver hand banner in org at one point. possibly teasing this future class/combo

Going to say what I did when we started hearing about Tauren Lights. NO

Why is a holy orc fighting queek headtaker?

Light just really is not a part of orc culture at all. Never has been in all of their history. And thematically that’s one thing that sets them apart from humans. Humans revere the Light and order and all that, and the orcs are more of chaotic tribal shamanistic types.

For them to adopt the Light would be a very radical change. The tauren sunwalkers did it, but they view themselves as the hands of An’she, one of their gods. The orcs have no gods, only revering their ancestors.

The mag’har having priests is largely due to the Shadowmoon clan who had shadow priests. Not so much for the Light side of things. Especially given how things played out with the draenei, there would likely be no Light orcs whatsoever coming from WoD.

Not that there couldn’t be orc paladins out there, maybe the Argent Crusade has some I’m not sure, but I think it’d be hard to spin a strong enough reason for playability and not be weird.

Because paladins not being able to be orcs is the only thing stopping orcs from being 90% of all horde races in pvp

Thank god they can’t be druids
We don’t need druids with 20% baseline stun reduc and bubble

i know what you mean but on AU draenor some orcs converted willingly to the light under yrel and the naaru

I never noticed how many piercings Garrosh had. He really bedazzled himself xD

But those Light orcs would be back on AU Draenor still. They’re basically traitors, having converted to the enemies side and now are not welcome with the rest of the orcs.

It’d be different if Yrel tried it peacefully, opening the study of it to any orcs who were interested. Instead a bunch of other stuff happened.

i still think orc paladins are possible, really any race besides void elves and to a lesser extent undead. the lore can be contrived as easily as the void lords are back, some new races now seek the light like orcs/goblins and night elves/gnomes

How is there a light vs dark dichotomy between the two races if void elves can be holy priests? What class do void elves have that is the dark analogue of the paladin class and is not available to blood elves?

Make them worship Basic Campfire

void elf holy priest and LFD shadow priest is a gameplay mechanic

you are a creature of the void so void elf any class

Weird, blood elves get all of the classes void elves get and more

an orc cathedral would look hilarious

bunch of rocks, war banners and wild hyena running all over the place.

it has nothing to do with class and everything about you being a void infused creature. basically a void walker with an elf skin

dont forget what void elves turn into when they use the experimental anima cell that turns most races into a child version of themselves

The Orcs have now established the Church of Sol, Latom…

I just find it funny that Blizz acts like they still make decisions based on “what makes sense.” They abandoned all that years ago.

What actually makes sense is that besides DH any race could literally be any class. Races from both factions have been co-mingling for years at this point.

There could be orcs that are raised to be paladins and taurens that are trained to become mages. It actually makes a lot more sense to lift the restrictions (besides DH) than to keep them in place at this point.

Characters are meant to be a reflection of the races they originate from. Your class is your job, your race is your very being. Even if some super special Orc was a paladin, in a burst of Med’anian strength stupidity, that doesn’t reflect or represent the Orcish race in any way, shape, or form.

It’s not, “why can’t there be Orcish Paladins?” it’s “why would there be in the first place?” and “and why would there be so many as to be a legitimate class option open to the broad population?”

Unless they were willing to put in the work to justify why Orcish Culture suddenly undergoes this massive revolution to make Orcish Paladins a believable thing (extremely doubtful), there are no grounds for it.

a void lord expansion could see new races seeking out the light and its ways. times change

Mag’har maybe, but I don’t know about regular orc.

Nah we already had this discussion. Mak’Gora would be bs at this point. “YOU CAN’T F’IN BUBBLE HEARTH MID FIGHT” -Some angry Orc
